Unfounded, Baseless: India on UNHRC Chief Remarks on J&K, Manipur
India has slammed the recent remarks made by the UN’s human rights chief, Volker Türk, on Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Manipur, terming them as “unfounded and baseless”. The Indian permanent representative to the United Nations, Arindam Bagchi, made this statement during a press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, had expressed concerns over the restrictive laws in Jammu and Kashmir, which were imposed after the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. He said that the government should take steps to address the concerns of the people and ensure that the security forces are held accountable for their actions.
