
PCAIT, Delhi CM Discuss ICT Growth & Nehru Place Revamp Plan
In a significant move towards bolstering Delhi’s ICT (Information and Communication Technology) ecosystem, a delegation from PCAIT (Progressive Channels Association of Information Technology), led by its President, Alok Gupta, met Delhi CM, Rekha Gupta, on July 3, 2025. The meeting aimed to foster a joint roadmap for the growth of ICT in the national capital, with a specific focus on revamping Nehru Place, a historic hub of IT and electronics in Delhi.
The PCAIT delegation presented a comprehensive plan to the Delhi CM, highlighting the need for revitalisation of Nehru Place, which has been facing challenges in recent years. The delegation stressed that Nehru Place, being one of the oldest and largest IT markets in Delhi, requires a comprehensive makeover to regain its erstwhile glory. They requested the Delhi government to declare Nehru Place as a Zero Plastic Zone, to ensure a clean and sustainable environment for businesses and visitors alike.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Delhi government, including the Chief Secretary, who listened attentively to the PCAIT delegation’s proposals. The delegation presented a detailed report on the current state of Nehru Place, highlighting the challenges faced by the market, such as poor infrastructure, lack of green spaces, and inadequate waste management. They also presented a comprehensive plan to revamp the market, including the installation of modern infrastructure, development of green spaces, and establishment of a centralized waste management system.
The PCAIT delegation emphasized the importance of Nehru Place as a hub for the IT and electronics industry, providing employment opportunities to thousands of people. They requested the Delhi government to support the revamp plan by providing necessary infrastructure and incentives to the businesses operating in the market. The delegation also requested the government to consider implementing policies to promote sustainable development and reduce plastic waste in the market.
The Delhi CM expressed her gratitude to the PCAIT delegation for their efforts in promoting the ICT sector in Delhi. She acknowledged the importance of Nehru Place as a hub for the IT and electronics industry and assured the delegation that the Delhi government would consider their proposals seriously. She also emphasized the need for sustainable development and reduction of plastic waste in the market.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment from both parties to work together to revitalize Nehru Place and promote the growth of the ICT sector in Delhi. The PCAIT delegation and the Delhi government officials agreed to conduct a joint survey to assess the current state of Nehru Place and identify areas that require attention. They also agreed to establish a joint committee to oversee the implementation of the revamp plan and ensure the successful execution of the project.
The PCAIT delegation’s meeting with the Delhi CM is a significant step towards strengthening the ICT ecosystem in Delhi.
