RR Become 2nd Team to be Knocked Out of IPL 2025 Playoffs Race
The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed its second team being eliminated from the playoffs race. Rajasthan Royals (RR) were officially knocked out of the competition after losing to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 100 runs in their match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.
This defeat has not only ended RR’s hopes of making it to the playoffs but has also demoted them to the bottom half of the points table. The team, led by Sanju Samson, had a disappointing campaign this season, and this loss has only added to their woes.
The match between RR and MI was a one-sided affair, with the latter dominating the contest from the very beginning. MI, led by Rohit Sharma, won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision proved to be a wise one, as they posted a massive total of 230 runs on the board.
Openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma set the tone for the innings, adding 60 runs for the first wicket. Kishan, who has been in excellent form this season, scored 75 runs off 45 balls, while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 45 runs off 35 balls.
The middle order batsmen, including Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard, also made significant contributions to take the total to 230 runs. For RR, the bowling attack led by Yashasvi Jaiswal and R Ashwin was unable to contain the MI batsmen, conceding 42 runs in the last five overs.
Chasing a massive target, RR got off to a poor start, losing their first three wickets for just 30 runs. The innings never recovered from there, with the batsmen struggling to cope with the MI bowlers. The team’s top scorer was Riyan Parag, who scored 35 runs off 30 balls.
The defeat has left RR with just six points from 11 matches, making it impossible for them to qualify for the playoffs. The team will now focus on ending their season on a high note, with two matches remaining.
Meanwhile, MI have jumped to the top of the points table with 14 points from 11 matches. They have now won four matches on the trot and will look to maintain their winning streak in their upcoming matches.
The other team to be eliminated from the playoffs race earlier this week was Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The team, led by MS Dhoni, had a disappointing campaign this season, and their loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday sealed their fate.
The elimination of RR and CSK has made way for other teams to join the playoffs race. The competition is now wide open, with several teams still in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.
The 2025 IPL playoffs are just around the corner, and the remaining teams will look to give it their all to make it to the coveted stage. With the competition heating up, fans can expect some thrilling matches in the coming days.
