Priyansh Arya shares influence of Gambhir & Ponting on his batting
As the Delhi Premier League (DPL) approaches, cricketers from across the country are gearing up to showcase their skills. Among them is Priyansh Arya, a talented young batsman who has been making waves in the domestic circuit. Ahead of the DPL, Arya took some time to reflect on the influences that have shaped his career, and two names stood out – Gautam Gambhir and Ricky Ponting.
In an exclusive interview, Arya spoke about the impact these two legends have had on his batting style and approach to the game. Gambhir, in particular, has been a source of inspiration for Arya, who credits the former Indian opener for instilling a sense of mental toughness and composure in him.
“Playing under Gambhir as a captain was an incredible experience,” Arya began. “He was always calm and composed, even in high-pressure situations. I remember how he would analyze the game, identify the weaknesses of the opposition, and come up with a plan to exploit them. His mental toughness inspired me to work on my own mental game, to stay calm and focused under pressure.”
Arya recalled how Gambhir’s words of wisdom would often resonate with him during tense matches. “He would tell me to trust my instincts, to back myself, and to not get too worked up about the result. Those words stuck with me, and I’ve tried to incorporate them into my own approach to the game.”
Ponting, on the other hand, played a significant role in boosting Arya’s self-belief. The Australian great, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, took Arya under his wing during a stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
“Ricky Ponting is someone who has a deep understanding of the game,” Arya said. “He would often work with me on my technique, identifying areas where I could improve and providing guidance on how to do so. But more than that, he instilled in me a sense of confidence and self-belief.”
Arya remembered how Ponting would often praise his efforts, even when he was struggling to score. “He would tell me that I was doing the right things, that I just needed to trust myself and the process. Those words meant a lot to me, and they helped me to stay positive and focused, even during tough times.”
The impact of Gambhir and Ponting on Arya’s batting style is evident. He has developed a reputation as a reliable and composed batsman, able to tackle pressure situations with ease. His ability to adapt to different conditions and oppositions has also been impressive, and he credits Gambhir and Ponting for helping him develop these skills.
“Playing under Gambhir and learning from Ponting has given me a solid foundation to build on,” Arya said. “I’ve been able to develop my own batting style, which is a combination of their influences and my own experiences. I feel confident going into the DPL, knowing that I have the skills and mental toughness to perform under pressure.”
As the Delhi Premier League approaches, Arya will hope to continue his impressive form and make a statement in the tournament. With Gambhir and Ponting’s influence evident in his batting, he is well-equipped to achieve his goals.
