UP CM withdrew cases against him: Akhilesh on PM-CM removal Bills
In a scathing attack on the Uttar Pradesh government, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday criticized the Bill that proposes to remove Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and ministers if they fail to obtain bail within 30 days of arrest. Yadav, while addressing a press conference, alleged that the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, had anticipated the introduction of such a bill and therefore, preemptively withdrew all cases filed against him and the Deputy Chief Ministers.
The Bill, which is still awaiting approval, aims to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and ministers from their positions if they are arrested and fail to secure bail within 30 days. However, Akhilesh Yadav is of the opinion that this Bill is nothing but an attempt to harass the Opposition and undermine the democratic institutions.
“Our CM (Yogi Adityanath) knew that such a bill would eventually come, so he preemptively withdrew all cases filed against him and those against the Deputy CMs,” Akhilesh Yadav said. “This is an attempt to silence the Opposition and undermine the democratic institutions of the country,” he added.
Yadav’s comments come at a time when the opposition is already up in arms against the proposed Bill, which they claim is undemocratic and a threat to the country’s institutions. The Bill, if passed, would allow the President or the Governor to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or ministers who are arrested and fail to secure bail within 30 days.
Akhilesh Yadav’s statement has added fuel to the fire, with many opposition leaders and intellectuals expressing their concerns over the proposed Bill. The Samajwadi Party leader’s comments have also sparked a debate on social media, with many taking to Twitter to express their support for Yadav’s views.
The Uttar Pradesh government, however, has remained silent on the matter, with no official statement being issued in response to Yadav’s allegations. The government has maintained that the proposed Bill is aimed at ensuring that those in power are held accountable for their actions.
The proposed Bill has also sparked concerns over the freedom of speech and expression in the country. Many have pointed out that the Bill could be used to silence the Opposition and harass those who are critical of the government.
Akhilesh Yadav’s statement has also raised questions over the motives behind the proposed Bill. If the government is genuinely concerned about accountability, why did it take so long to introduce such a bill? And why did the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh withdraw all cases filed against him and his Deputy Chief Ministers?
The introduction of the proposed Bill has also raised concerns over the role of the judiciary in the country. If the government is able to remove the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or ministers without a trial, what would be the role of the judiciary in holding those in power accountable?
In conclusion, the proposed Bill to remove Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and ministers if they fail to obtain bail within 30 days of arrest is a controversial topic that has sparked a heated debate in the country. While the government claims that the Bill is aimed at ensuring accountability, many have raised concerns over the potential misuse of the law and the impact it could have on the country’s democratic institutions.
