Sri Lankan pirates attack Tamil Nadu fishermen; 17 hospitalised
In a shocking and brutal display of violence, suspected Sri Lankan sea pirates launched a series of attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen, leaving 17 injured and several stranded. The attacks, which took place in back-to-back incidents, have sent shockwaves of fear and anger through coastal villages in Nagapattinam.
According to reports, over 30 fishermen from Nagapattinam were assaulted by the pirates, who used iron rods and knives to beat them. The pirates also looted the fishermen’s gear, GPS devices, and catch, leaving the victims stranded in the middle of the sea.
The attacks are believed to have taken place on the night of [date], when the fishermen were out at sea, fishing for their daily catch. The pirates, who are suspected to be from Sri Lanka, targeted the fishermen’s boats and began beating them mercilessly.
“It was like a nightmare come true,” said Raja, one of the fishermen who was attacked. “We were fishing peacefully when suddenly, these men appeared out of nowhere and started beating us. They took away our gear and our catch, and left us with nothing.”
The fishermen, who were left battered and bruised, were able to make their way back to shore, where they were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Seventeen of the fishermen were hospitalized, with several others still receiving treatment for their injuries.
The attacks have sparked outrage and concern among local residents, who are demanding that the government take immediate action to protect the fishermen. “This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately,” said S. Ravi, a local resident. “The government needs to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of our fishermen and prevent such attacks from happening again.”
The attacks on the Tamil Nadu fishermen are the latest in a series of incidents involving Sri Lankan pirates in the region. In recent years, there have been several reports of pirates attacking Indian fishermen, stealing their gear and catch, and leaving them stranded in the sea.
The Indian government has repeatedly urged Sri Lanka to take action against the pirates and prevent such attacks from happening in the future. However, the attacks continue to happen, leaving many fishermen and their families vulnerable to violence and exploitation.
In the aftermath of the attacks, the Tamil Nadu government has vowed to take action to protect the fishermen and prevent such incidents from happening again. “We will not tolerate such attacks on our fishermen,” said a government official. “We will take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and security, and prevent such incidents from happening again.”
The attacks on the Tamil Nadu fishermen are a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Sri Lankan pirates to Indian fishermen. The government must take immediate action to address this issue and ensure the safety and security of our fishermen.
