Tharoor also believes that Trump’s tweet offers Pakistan a negotiating framework that it hasn’t earned. “Pakistan has been trying to internationalize the Kashmir dispute, and Trump’s tweet gives them a platform to do so,” he said. “But Pakistan has not taken any concrete steps to curb terrorism or dismantle its militant organizations. It’s like rewarding a nation that has been violating international law and committing atrocities against its neighbors.”
Furthermore, Tharoor claims that Trump’s tweet “internationalizes” the Kashmir dispute, which is a sensitive issue between India and Pakistan. “The Kashmir issue is a bilateral dispute between India and Pakistan, and it’s not for the international community to intervene,” he said. “Trump’s tweet is an attempt to meddle in a domestic issue, which is not appreciated by the people of India.”
Finally, Tharoor believes that Trump’s tweet “re-hyphenates” India and Pakistan, which means that it creates an artificial link between the two nations. “India and Pakistan are two separate nations with their own distinct histories, cultures, and values,” he said. “To suggest that they are connected in a way that requires a ceasefire is a simplistic view of international relations.”
