Oppn Got Rap on Knuckles: JD(U) on SC’s Voter List Revision Order
The Supreme Court’s recent observations on petitions against Bihar’s electoral roll revision have drawn a sharp reaction from the JD(U), which has said that the opposition parties have got a “rap on the knuckles” for their attempts to stall the exercise.
The JD(U), headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has been a strong proponent of the electoral roll revision exercise, which is being conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in several states, including Bihar.
The opposition parties, including the Congress, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (CPI), have been critical of the exercise, terming it a “conspiracy” to deprive a large number of people of their voting rights and benefit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.
However, the Supreme Court’s recent observations have dealt a blow to these allegations, with the apex court saying that the ECI has a constitutional mandate to conduct the electoral roll revision exercise.
In its order, the Supreme Court said that the ECI has the power to revise the electoral rolls and that the exercise is necessary to ensure the purity and integrity of the electoral process.
The JD(U) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s observations, saying that they have vindicated the party’s stand on the issue.
“This is a rap on the knuckles for the opposition parties, who have been trying to stall the electoral roll revision exercise,” said a JD(U) spokesperson.
The spokesperson also said that the opposition parties have been trying to create a controversy over the issue, but the Supreme Court’s observations have exposed their intentions.
“The Supreme Court has clearly stated that the ECI has the power to revise the electoral rolls and that the exercise is necessary to ensure the purity and integrity of the electoral process,” said the spokesperson.
The JD(U) has also accused the opposition parties of trying to mislead the people on the issue.
“They are trying to create a false narrative that the electoral roll revision exercise is aimed at depriving people of their voting rights,” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson also said that the JD(U) is committed to ensuring that the electoral roll revision exercise is conducted in a free and fair manner.
“We will ensure that the exercise is conducted in a transparent and fair manner, and that every eligible voter is given the opportunity to exercise their franchise,” said the spokesperson.
The opposition parties, on the other hand, have refused to accept the Supreme Court’s observations, saying that they will continue to fight against the electoral roll revision exercise.
“We will not accept the Supreme Court’s observations on this issue,” said a leader of the RJD.
The leader also said that the opposition parties will continue to fight against the exercise, which they claim is aimed at depriving people of their voting rights.
“We will use all legal means to fight against this exercise,” said the leader.
It remains to be seen how the opposition parties will respond to the Supreme Court’s observations and whether they will continue to stall the electoral roll revision exercise.
However, for now, the JD(U) is celebrating the Supreme Court’s observations as a major victory, saying that they have vindicated the party’s stand on the issue.
