Mufti Alleges Foul Play After OGW Jumps in J&K River, Drowns; BJP Slams Her
In a shocking incident, an overground worker (OGW) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district jumped into a river and drowned, sparking allegations of foul play from former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The incident has led to a heated debate between Mufti and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both sides trading barbs over the circumstances surrounding the worker’s death.
According to reports, the OGW, whose identity has not been disclosed, was seen jumping into the river in Kulgam district on Wednesday evening. Eyewitnesses claimed that the worker was in a distressed state before taking the fatal plunge. Local authorities were quick to respond, and rescue efforts were launched to retrieve the body.
However, Mufti, who is also the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that there is more to the incident than meets the eye. She took to Twitter to express her concerns, stating that locals had informed her that the OGW was picked up by the Army two days ago. “Foul play suspected in the death of an OGW in Kulgam. Locals have told me that he was picked up by the Army 2 days ago. The truth must come out,” Mufti tweeted.
Reacting to Mufti’s remarks, BJP leader Sanju Verma slammed her, saying that she had a history of making similar allegations without evidence. “Mehbooba, after the Pahalgam terror attack, said, ‘Why blame Pakistan?’ Now, she’s making similar allegations without any proof. Her credibility is in tatters,” Verma tweeted.
The incident has raised questions about the safety and well-being of OGWs in the region. OGWs are individuals who work with militant groups to facilitate their activities, but do not directly participate in armed operations. They often face intimidation and harassment from security forces, and their families are frequently targeted by militants.
Mufti’s allegations have also sparked concerns about the role of security forces in the region. While the Army has not commented on the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched an investigation into the OGW’s death. The police have also assured that they are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The incident is a stark reminder of the complex and sensitive nature of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The region has been plagued by insurgency and terrorism for decades, with various militant groups vying for control. The situation has led to a fragile balance of power, with security forces and separatist groups locked in a perpetual struggle.
In recent years, the situation has deteriorated further, with increased tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. The two countries have accused each other of sponsoring terrorism in the region, and there have been numerous allegations of human rights abuses.
The incident has also highlighted the challenges facing OGWs in the region. These individuals often find themselves caught in the crossfire between security forces and militant groups, and their lives are frequently threatened by both sides.
As the investigation into the OGW’s death continues, it remains to be seen whether Mufti’s allegations of foul play will be proven true. However, the incident has once again highlighted the need for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir conflict. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve to live in peace and security, free from the fear of violence and intimidation.
