Mufti Alleges Foul Play After OGW Jumps in J&K River, Drowns; BJP Slams Her
In a shocking incident, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of the separatist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) jumped into the Jhelum River in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir and drowned. The incident has sparked a controversy, with former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleging foul play and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slamming her remarks.
According to reports, the OGW, identified as Bilal Ahmad, was picked up by the Army from the area two days ago. However, he managed to escape and jumped into the river on Wednesday evening. Despite efforts by the local residents to save him, Ahmad drowned in the river.
Mufti, who was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2015 to 2018, took to Twitter to express her concerns over the incident. She alleged that the locals claimed that the OGW was picked up by the Army two days ago, implying that there was some sort of foul play involved in his death.
“Shocking! Locals in Kulgam claim that the OGW who jumped into the Jhelum river was picked up by the Army 2 days ago. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. We need to investigate these incidents and take action against those responsible,” Mufti tweeted.
However, her remarks did not go down well with the BJP, which slammed her for making baseless allegations. BJP leader Sanju Verma responded to Mufti’s tweet, saying that she had a history of making such claims.
“Mehbooba, after the Pahalgam terror attack, you said, ‘Why blame Pakistan?’ And now, you’re crying foul play. Your credibility is at an all-time low. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are wise and will not fall for your cheap politics,” Verma tweeted.
The BJP leader’s remarks were in reference to Mufti’s statement last year, when she had said that the Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) was not responsible for the terror attack in Pahalgam. The attack had killed 10 people, including a police officer.
The controversy surrounding Mufti’s remarks has raised questions about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been facing a security crisis for several years. The region has witnessed a surge in stone-pelting incidents, terror attacks, and militant activities, which have claimed the lives of several security personnel and civilians.
The OGW who drowned in the Jhelum River was a known LeT operative, and his death has sent shockwaves through the region. The incident has also raised concerns about the security situation in the region, and the role of the Army and other security forces in maintaining law and order.
In recent years, there have been several incidents where OGWs have been involved in militant activities, and their deaths have often been shrouded in mystery. In some cases, they have been reported to have been killed in encounters with security forces, while in others, they have been found dead under suspicious circumstances.
The situation in Jammu and Kashmir is complex and sensitive, and any allegations of foul play or human rights violations can escalate tensions in the region. It is essential for all stakeholders to maintain calm and ensure that the situation does not get out of hand.
In conclusion, the incident of the OGW who jumped into the Jhelum River and drowned has raised several questions about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. While Mufti’s allegations of foul play may be based on local reports, they have been disputed by the BJP and other security experts. It is essential for all stakeholders to maintain calm and ensure that the situation does not get out of hand.
