Mufti Alleges Foul Play After OGW Jumps in J&K River, Drowns; BJP Slams Her
In a shocking incident, an overground worker (OGW) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district jumped into a river and drowned, sparking allegations of foul play by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The incident has led to a heated debate between Mufti’s party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to eyewitnesses, the OGW, who has been identified as a 30-year-old resident of Kulgam, was seen jumping into the river in the early hours of the morning. Local authorities were alerted, and a rescue operation was launched to retrieve the body. The deceased was identified as a sympathizer of the separatist group, Hizbul Mujahideen.
Mufti, who is also the president of the PDP, took to social media to express her concerns over the incident. She alleged that the OGW was picked up by the Army two days ago, and his family had been searching for him since then. Mufti claimed that the locals had informed her about the alleged abduction, and she demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
“Misuse of power & human rights violations by the security forces have become a norm in J&K,” Mufti tweeted. “The recent incident of a young man from Kulgam being picked up by the Army 2 days ago & his body being found in a river today is a stark reminder of the atrocities being perpetrated against the people of J&K. #JusticeForKulgam #StopViolence”
However, the BJP was quick to react to Mufti’s allegations, calling them baseless and an attempt to divert attention from the real issues. Sanju Verma, a senior BJP leader, took to social media to slam Mufti, saying that she had made similar allegations in the past but had no evidence to back them up.
“Mehbooba, after the Pahalgam terror attack, said, ‘Why blame Pakistan?'” Verma tweeted. “Now, she’s alleging foul play in Kulgam. But where was her outrage when terrorists were killing innocents? Facts are facts, and we won’t be distracted by her empty rhetoric. #BJP #TruthWins”
The incident has reignited the debate over human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, with both sides trading charges. The PDP has demanded an independent investigation into the matter, while the BJP has called for an end to the “baseless allegations” made by Mufti.
The incident is also a reminder of the ongoing turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been reeling under a security lockdown since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The region has seen a surge in militant activities, and there have been reports of human rights violations by security forces.
As the investigation into the matter continues, it remains to be seen whether the allegations of foul play will be proven true or not. However, one thing is certain – the incident has once again highlighted the deep-seated distrust and mistrust between the different factions in Jammu and Kashmir, and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
