Mahua wrongly corrects PM Modi, calls Sarojini Bose ‘Sarojini Naidu’
In a recent address to the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a story from India’s freedom struggle. He spoke about Sarojini Bose, a brave woman who had vowed not to wear her gold bangles until the ban on ‘Vande Mataram’ was lifted in the early 1900s. However, the mention of Sarojini Bose’s name seemed to have caused some confusion among the members of the opposition, particularly Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra.
As soon as PM Modi mentioned Sarojini Bose’s name, Mahua Moitra jumped to her feet, shouting “Naidu, sir!” in an attempt to correct the Prime Minister. However, her correction was misplaced, and she ended up revealing her own lack of knowledge about India’s freedom fighters. Sarojini Bose and Sarojini Naidu were two different women, both of whom played important roles in India’s struggle for independence.
Sarojini Naidu, also known as the Nightingale of India, was a prominent poet, politician, and women’s rights activist. She was born in 1879 in Hyderabad and was educated in England. Naidu was a key figure in the Indian National Congress and played a crucial role in the country’s freedom movement. She was also the first Indian woman to become the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
On the other hand, Sarojini Bose was a lesser-known figure, but her contribution to the freedom movement was no less significant. She was a brave woman who defied the British authorities by refusing to wear her gold bangles until the ban on ‘Vande Mataram’ was lifted. ‘Vande Mataram’ was a patriotic song written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, which became a symbol of India’s resistance against British rule.
BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari was quick to respond to Mahua Moitra’s gaffe, saying on X, “She doesn’t know Bose and Naidu were two different women…she should pick up a book.” Bhandari’s response highlights the lack of knowledge among some of our politicians about India’s rich history and freedom struggle. It is unfortunate that Mahua Moitra, a member of Parliament, is not aware of the difference between Sarojini Bose and Sarojini Naidu.
This incident raises several questions about the level of awareness and knowledge among our politicians. It is disturbing to think that some of our elected representatives are not familiar with the stories of India’s freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. It is essential for our politicians to have a good understanding of India’s history and culture, as they are responsible for shaping the country’s future.
Moreover, this incident also highlights the importance of education and awareness about India’s freedom struggle. It is essential for us to learn about the contributions of freedom fighters like Sarojini Bose and Sarojini Naidu, who played a significant role in shaping the country’s history. By learning about their stories, we can appreciate the sacrifices they made for our country and work towards building a better future for ourselves and our children.
In conclusion, Mahua Moitra’s attempt to correct PM Modi was misguided, and her lack of knowledge about Sarojini Bose and Sarojini Naidu was evident. It is essential for our politicians to be aware of India’s history and culture, and to respect the contributions of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our country’s independence. We hope that this incident will serve as a reminder to our politicians to learn more about India’s rich history and to appreciate the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
