K’taka CM & Dy CM directly responsible for stampede: LoP R Ashoka
In the aftermath of the tragic stampede that occurred outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, killing 11 people, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, has held the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, directly responsible for the incident.
The stampede took place on May 29, 2022, during a program organized to distribute relief materials to flood-affected people. The incident has left the state and the nation in shock, with many calling for justice for the victims and their families.
Speaking to the media, LoP R Ashoka condemned the incident and demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a High Court judge to probe the incident. “Justice must be delivered for these deaths, and those responsible must be punished,” he emphasized.
Ashoka’s statement comes as the state government is facing severe criticism for its handling of the situation. The opposition has been accusing the government of being incompetent and lacking a clear plan to manage the crowd.
The LoP also questioned the government’s decision to organize the program at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has a limited capacity. “This is a clear case of administrative failure,” he said. “The government should have taken measures to ensure the safety of the people. Instead, they have left the victims’ families to struggle for justice.”
Ashoka’s comments have sparked a political storm in the state, with the ruling Congress party defending the government’s actions. “The government had taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the people,” said a senior Congress leader. “The incident was unfortunate, but it was not due to any lapse on the part of the government.”
However, opposition parties have rejected the government’s claims, saying that the incident was a result of their negligence and incompetence. “The government had been warned about the possibility of a stampede, but they chose to ignore it,” said a senior BJP leader. “Now, 11 people are dead, and the government is trying to shift the blame.”
The stampede has also raised questions about the preparedness of the state government to handle emergency situations. The incident has exposed the government’s lack of planning and coordination, which has led to a loss of faith in its ability to manage crises.
In the wake of the incident, the state government has announced an inquiry into the stampede. However, the opposition has demanded a more comprehensive investigation, including a SIT probe. “Only a thorough investigation can bring out the truth behind the stampede,” said LoP R Ashoka.
The incident has also sparked a debate about crowd management and safety measures at public events. Many experts have called for a review of the existing safety norms and protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the state and the nation come to terms with the tragedy, one thing is clear: justice must be delivered for the victims and their families. The government must take responsibility for its actions and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Only then can we hope to rebuild trust and move forward.
