K’taka CM & Dy CM directly responsible for stampede: LoP R Ashoka
In the wake of the tragic stampede that occurred outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, killing 11 people, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, R Ashoka, has held the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, directly responsible for the incident. Ashoka has demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a High Court judge to probe the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The stampede occurred on the night of May 24, when a large crowd of people had gathered outside the stadium to watch a cricket match between India and New Zealand. The crowd control measures in place were reportedly inadequate, leading to a crush that resulted in the loss of 11 lives and many more injuries.
In a statement, Ashoka said, “The Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, are directly responsible for the stampede. They have failed to provide adequate security and crowd control measures, which has led to this tragedy.”
Ashoka also demanded that the government take immediate action to ensure that those responsible for the stampede are held accountable. He said, “Justice must be delivered for these deaths, and those responsible must be punished. A Special Investigation Team led by a High Court judge must be constituted to probe the incident and bring those responsible to book.”
The LoP’s comments have sparked a heated debate in the state, with many calling for the government to take immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future. The opposition party has been critical of the government’s handling of the situation, saying that it has been slow to respond to the crisis and has failed to provide adequate compensation to the families of the victims.
The government, on the other hand, has defended its handling of the situation, saying that it has done everything possible to ensure the safety and security of the crowd. The Chief Minister has also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims and Rs 2 lakh each to those who were injured in the stampede.
The stampede has also raised questions about the preparedness of the government to handle large-scale events. The Chinnaswamy Stadium is a popular venue for cricket matches and other events, and the government has been criticized for not taking adequate measures to ensure the safety and security of the crowd.
The incident has also sparked a debate about the role of the government in ensuring public safety and security. The opposition party has said that the government has a responsibility to ensure that events are held in a safe and secure manner, and that it has failed to do so in this case.
In conclusion, the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium is a tragic reminder of the importance of crowd control and public safety. The government and the opposition party have both been criticized for their handling of the situation, and it is clear that there is much work to be done to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
