K’taka CM & Dy CM directly responsible for stampede: LoP R Ashoka
Tragedy struck Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium recently when 11 people lost their lives in a devastating stampede that occurred during a cultural event. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with many demanding justice for the victims and their families. In the wake of this tragic event, Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashoka has squarely placed the responsibility for the stampede on the shoulders of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Speaking to the media, Ashoka stated that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister were directly responsible for the stampede, which occurred during the ‘Dakshina Kannada Bachchanotsava’ event. He further demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a High Court judge be formed to probe the incident. Ashoka emphasized that justice must be delivered for the lives lost, and those responsible must be punished.
The stampede occurred when a large crowd surged forward to enter the stadium, resulting in a crush that led to the tragic loss of 11 lives. The incident has raised serious questions about the preparedness and planning of the authorities, particularly the stadium management and the police. The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to those who were injured.
Ashoka’s accusations against the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are not without merit. The stadium, which is a major venue for cultural and sporting events, has a history of overcrowding and poor crowd management. In the past, there have been instances of stampedes and other accidents at the stadium, which have resulted in injuries and even fatalities.
The recent stampede has sparked a debate about the need for improved safety measures and crowd management at public events. Many have questioned the role of the authorities in preventing such incidents, and have demanded that those responsible be held accountable.
The opposition parties, including the BJP and the JD(S), have also been critical of the government’s handling of the incident. They have demanded a thorough investigation and have accused the government of trying to cover up the truth.
In the face of mounting pressure, the government has announced an inquiry into the incident. The inquiry committee, headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), has been tasked with identifying the causes of the stampede and recommending measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
While the inquiry is underway, Ashoka’s demands for a SIT probe led by a High Court judge are gaining traction. Many are calling for a transparent and independent investigation into the incident, which would ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium is a tragic reminder of the importance of crowd safety and management at public events. It is essential that the authorities take immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure that justice is delivered to the victims and their families.
