J&K’s only AAP MLA Mehraj Malik booked for threatening, abusing woman doctor
In a shocking turn of events, Jammu and Kashmir’s only Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, Mehraj Malik, has been booked by the police for allegedly threatening a woman doctor. The doctor, who works at a government medical college in Doda, accused Malik of making “abusive, gendered and derogatory remarks” against her online. The allegations are a serious violation of the doctor’s rights and dignity, and have sparked outrage across the state.
According to the police complaint filed by the doctor, Malik had made the threatening remarks against her on a social media platform. The doctor alleged that Malik had threatened to drag her and strip her naked. The police have taken serious note of the allegations and have booked Malik under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with many calling for Malik’s immediate resignation. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken cognizance of the matter and has sought a report from the police. The NCW has demanded that Malik be arrested and charged under the relevant laws.
The doctor, who has chosen to remain anonymous, alleged that Malik had been harassing her for some time. She claimed that he had made several abusive comments against her, including gendered and derogatory remarks. The doctor said that she had tried to ignore the comments, but Malik’s behavior had become increasingly threatening and abusive.
“I was shocked and disgusted when I saw the comments made by Malik. I have never seen such abusive and derogatory language used against anyone, let alone a woman. I was scared and felt threatened, so I decided to file a complaint with the police,” the doctor said in her statement.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter and have registered a case against Malik. The police have also issued a notice to Malik, asking him to appear before them for questioning.
Malik has denied the allegations, claiming that they are baseless and politically motivated. He has accused the doctor of making false allegations against him and has threatened to take legal action against her.
“I am not afraid of the law. I will not let these false allegations go unpunished. I will fight this case tooth and nail and will prove my innocence,” Malik said in a statement.
The incident has sparked a heated debate about the state of women’s safety in Jammu and Kashmir. Many have expressed outrage and shock at Malik’s alleged behavior, and have called for his immediate resignation.
“This is a serious violation of the doctor’s rights and dignity. As an MLA, Malik has a responsibility to uphold the law and respect the rights of all citizens. He has failed miserably in this regard,” said a local resident.
The incident has also raised questions about the AAP’s commitment to women’s rights and safety. The party has been vocal about its support for women’s empowerment and gender equality, but the allegations against Malik have raised doubts about its credibility.
The AAP has issued a statement condemning Malik’s alleged behavior and has distanced itself from the incident. The party has also promised to take appropriate action against Malik if the allegations are found to be true.
“We condemn the alleged behavior of our MLA in the strongest possible terms. We do not support or condone any form of harassment or abuse against women. We will take appropriate action against Malik if the allegations are found to be true,” said an AAP spokesperson.
The incident is a stark reminder of the need for greater awareness and action on issues related to women’s safety and rights. It is essential that we take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
