J&K’s Only AAP MLA Mehraj Malik Booked for Threatening, Abusing Woman Doctor
In a shocking development, Jammu and Kashmir’s only Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, Mehraj Malik, has been booked by the police for allegedly threatening and abusing a woman doctor. The doctor, who works at a government medical college in Doda, has accused Malik of making “abusive, gendered and derogatory remarks” against her online.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with many calling for Malik’s resignation and strict action against him. The police have registered a case against Malik under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act.
According to the complainant, Malik made the abusive remarks against her on social media, which she found to be “distressing and intimidating”. She alleged that he threatened to drag her and strip her naked, and also made derogatory comments about her profession.
The woman doctor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been working at the government medical college in Doda for several years. She has been a vocal critic of the government’s healthcare policies and has been involved in various protests and campaigns to improve the healthcare system in the state.
In her complaint to the police, the doctor alleged that Malik had been making personal attacks on her online for some time, but things took a turn for the worse when he made the abusive remarks against her. She claimed that Malik’s behavior was not only unacceptable but also a threat to her safety and well-being.
The police have taken the complaint seriously and have registered a case against Malik under sections 500 (punishment for defamation), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 67 (publishing or transmitting of material containing indecent representation of women) of the IPC, as well as sections 66-A (punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service) and 67 (publishing or transmitting of material containing indecent representation of women) of the IT Act.
The police have also seized Malik’s phone and social media accounts as part of the investigation. An officer from the Doda police station confirmed that a case had been registered against Malik and that an investigation was underway.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many calling for Malik’s resignation and strict action against him. The AAP has distanced itself from the incident, with a party spokesperson stating that Malik’s behavior was “unacceptable and not representative of the party’s values”.
The incident has also highlighted the issue of online harassment and abuse, particularly against women. Many have come forward to share their own experiences of online harassment and abuse, and have called for greater action to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
In the meantime, the police are investigating the incident and are expected to take further action against Malik in the coming days. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for greater accountability and respect for women, particularly in positions of power and authority.
