J&K’s only AAP MLA Mehraj Malik booked for threatening, abusing woman doctor
In a shocking turn of events, Jammu and Kashmir’s only Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, Mehraj Malik, has been booked by the police for allegedly threatening and abusing a woman doctor. This incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about the safety and dignity of women, particularly in the medical profession.
According to reports, the woman doctor, who works at a government medical college in Doda, lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Malik made “abusive, gendered, and derogatory remarks” against her online. She further alleged that he threatened to drag her and strip her naked.
The incident reportedly occurred after the doctor expressed her opinion on a social media platform about the functioning of the medical college. Malik, who represents the Doda constituency in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, responded to her post with a series of abusive comments, which led to a heated online argument.
The doctor, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed that Malik’s behavior was not only unacceptable but also constituted a serious threat to her safety and well-being. She alleged that Malik’s actions were intended to intimidate and humiliate her, and that they had caused her immense distress and harassment.
Following the doctor’s complaint, the police booked Malik under Section 354-D (stalking) and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have also taken statements from the doctor and other witnesses in connection with the case.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from various quarters, with many calling for Malik’s immediate resignation. The medical fraternity has also expressed shock and outrage at the MLA’s behavior, with several doctors and medical professionals taking to social media to condemn his actions.
“This is a serious incident and a clear case of abuse and harassment,” said Dr. Sumeet Jain, a senior doctor at the government medical college in Doda. “As a medical professional, it is essential that we maintain the highest standards of dignity and respect, and Malik’s behavior is a gross violation of these principles.”
The incident has also raised questions about the safety and security of women in the medical profession, which is already plagued by several challenges. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 70% of women in the healthcare sector experience some form of harassment or violence at the workplace.
“This incident highlights the need for greater awareness and action to address the issue of gender-based violence in the medical profession,” said Dr. Ravi Kumar, a leading expert on women’s health and empowerment. “We need to ensure that women in the healthcare sector feel safe and respected, and that they are protected from harassment and abuse.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have assured that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the case and take appropriate action against Malik. However, many are calling for Malik’s immediate resignation and a thorough probe into the incident.
As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: the actions of Mehraj Malik have caused immense harm and distress to a woman doctor, and have raised serious questions about the safety and dignity of women in the medical profession.
