Title: J&K CM’s remark on water sharing unreasonable: Akali Dal leader
The recent remark made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he will not share any water with Punjab has sparked a heated debate in the region. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema has termed Abdullah’s statement as “unreasonable” and has questioned his logic in making such a comment.
In an interview with ANI, Cheema stated, “We did not expect him to comment on Punjab, as river water distribution has earlier also been in favour of other states like Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. It’s quite unreasonable to say that Jammu and Kashmir will not share water with Punjab.”
Cheema’s remarks come at a time when the region is already grappling with issues of water scarcity and drought. The Akali Dal leader emphasized that the water sharing agreement between the states was necessary to ensure the well-being of the people and the region.
Abdullah’s statement, made during a recent visit to the region, has been met with widespread criticism from various quarters. The Jammu and Kashmir CM had said that his state will not share its water with Punjab, citing the need to prioritize its own needs first.
However, Cheema has taken issue with Abdullah’s statement, saying that it is not a reasonable approach to take. He stated, “We are not asking for the entire water of Jammu and Kashmir to be shared with Punjab, but rather a fair share of the water that is available. It is not a question of giving away Jammu and Kashmir’s water, but rather a question of sharing the water that is available in a fair and equitable manner.”
The Akali Dal leader also pointed out that the water sharing agreement is not a new concept, and that it has been in place for many years. He stated, “The water sharing agreement has been in place for many years, and it has been a successful model for sharing water between the states. We did not expect Omar Abdullah to make such a comment, as it is not in line with the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding that has always existed between the states.”
Cheema’s comments have been echoed by many other leaders and experts in the region, who have also criticized Abdullah’s statement. Many have pointed out that the Jammu and Kashmir CM’s statement is not only unreasonable, but also short-sighted and unhelpful in addressing the region’s water scarcity issues.
In conclusion, the recent remark made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he will not share any water with Punjab has sparked a heated debate in the region. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema has termed Abdullah’s statement as “unreasonable” and has questioned his logic in making such a comment. Cheema has emphasized the importance of sharing water between the states in a fair and equitable manner, and has called for a more cooperative approach to addressing the region’s water scarcity issues.
