J&K CM Omar meets PM Modi for first time after Pahalgam attack
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday, marking his first meeting with the PM after the Pahalgam terror attack that left at least 26 tourists dead. The meeting reportedly took place for around 30 minutes, during which the two leaders are believed to have discussed the ongoing security situation in the valley.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, was one of the deadliest in recent years, and sparked widespread outrage and shock across the country. The attack, which was carried out by militants, targeted a tourist bus in Pahalgam, killing 26 people, including 17 foreigners, and injuring many more.
The meeting between Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Modi comes at a critical time, with the government still grappling with the aftermath of the attack. The Centre and the state government have launched a joint investigation into the attack, and have vowed to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the two leaders are believed to have discussed the security situation in the valley, and the measures being taken to prevent such attacks in the future. They also reportedly discussed the issue of infiltration from across the border, and the steps being taken to prevent illegal infiltration.
The meeting assumes significance, as it marks the first time that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has met Prime Minister Modi since the Pahalgam attack. The two leaders had previously clashed over the issue of the Centre’s handling of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with Omar Abdullah accusing the Centre of not doing enough to address the security situation in the valley.
However, in recent weeks, there have been signs of a thaw in the relationship between the Centre and the state government. The Centre has increased its financial assistance to the state government to tackle the security situation, and has also deployed additional security forces to the valley.
The Pahalgam attack has also led to a renewed focus on the issue of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and the Centre’s efforts to tackle the problem. The attack has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many calling for stronger action against the militants and their sponsors.
The meeting between Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Modi is seen as an important step towards strengthening the Centre-state relationship, and towards tackling the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The two leaders will need to work closely together to address the challenges facing the state, and to ensure the safety and security of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
