Jagan Accuses TDP Government of ₹11,000 Crore Scam, Declares June 4 as “Betrayal Day”
In a scathing press meet, former Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the NDA-led Andhra Pradesh government of large-scale corruption, economic mismanagement, and political vendetta. The YSRCP leader made the allegations citing data from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and declared June 4 as “Betrayal Day” to mark the occasion.
Jagan, who has been a vocal critic of the TDP government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, alleged that the government had engaged in a massive scam worth ₹11,000 crore. He claimed that the government had misused its powers to benefit its cronies and allies, while the people of Andhra Pradesh continued to suffer.
The YSRCP leader pointed to several examples of alleged corruption and mismanagement, including the power sector. He claimed that the government had sold power at a loss to private companies, resulting in a loss of ₹1,500 crore to the state exchequer. He also accused the government of not implementing the Andhra Pradesh Power Reforms Act, which was passed in 2018 to ensure the state’s power distribution companies operated efficiently.
Jagan also targeted the government’s liquor policy, alleging that it had given away the state’s liquor business to a few private companies without conducting a transparent bidding process. He claimed that the government had lost ₹2,000 crore in revenue as a result of this policy.
The YSRCP leader also attacked the government’s decision to shift the capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam. He claimed that the government had spent ₹25,000 crore on the Amaravati project without any tangible results, and that the decision to shift the capital was a result of political vendetta against the people of Amaravati.
Jagan also criticized the government’s handling of the media, alleging that it had used its powers to suppress dissenting voices and silence critics. He claimed that the government had suspended several journalists and media personnel, and that it had used the Andhra Pradesh Disha Act to harass and intimidate those who opposed it.
Declaring June 4 as “Betrayal Day”, Jagan alleged that the government had betrayed the people of Andhra Pradesh by engaging in corrupt practices and neglecting their welfare. He called upon the people to join him in marking the day by wearing black clothes and holding protests against the government.
Jagan’s allegations against the TDP government have sparked a heated debate in the state, with the TDP accusing the YSRCP leader of making baseless accusations to deflect attention from his own party’s corruption scandals. However, Jagan’s allegations have also found support from several opposition parties and civil society organizations, who have called for a thorough investigation into the government’s dealings.
The YSRCP leader’s accusations have also been backed by several data points, including a recent report by the CAG which highlighted irregularities in the government’s spending patterns. The RBI has also expressed concerns over the government’s fiscal management, warning that the state’s finances were at risk due to its reckless spending.
As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen whether Jagan’s allegations will lead to a thorough investigation into the government’s dealings. However, one thing is clear – the people of Andhra Pradesh are demanding accountability from their government, and they will not tolerate corruption and mismanagement any longer.
