For the First Time, Centre, State, and MCD Have a Common Goal: Delhi CM
After years of political bickering and gridlock, the city of Delhi is witnessing a rare phenomenon – a unified front among the Centre, State, and Municipal Corporation (MCD) governments. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed her optimism about this newfound cooperation, saying that it’s a significant departure from the past.
In an exclusive interview, CM Gupta emphasized that the people of Delhi have finally realized that the city’s growth depends on a double-engine government – one that combines the strengths of the Centre and State. She believes that this realization has led to a significant shift in the political landscape, with all three levels of government working together towards a common goal.
“For the first time, there’s a positive vibe where the Centre, State, and municipal corporation are working together with a common goal,” CM Gupta said. “Previous governments only focused on fighting with the Lieutenant Governor, the PM, the administration, courts, and police. But now, we’re working collaboratively to ensure Delhi’s growth and development.”
This newfound cooperation is particularly evident in the areas of Yamuna development and pollution control. CM Gupta has been at the forefront of efforts to revitalize the Yamuna river, which has become a symbol of Delhi’s environmental degradation. The joint effort between the Centre, State, and MCD has led to the launch of several initiatives, including the Yamuna River Front Development Project, which aims to restore the river’s natural beauty and ecological balance.
The Centre’s involvement in these initiatives is significant, as it has provided critical funding and technical expertise to support the State’s efforts. CM Gupta praised the Centre’s commitment to Delhi’s development, saying that it has been a game-changer for the city.
“The Centre’s support has been instrumental in our efforts to clean up the Yamuna and tackle pollution,” she said. “We’re working together to identify the sources of pollution and implement measures to reduce it. It’s a challenging task, but we’re making progress, and the people of Delhi are beginning to see the positive impact.”
The MCD, which has historically been plagued by corruption and inefficiency, is also playing a crucial role in these initiatives. CM Gupta acknowledged that the MCD had a lot of catching up to do, but praised its efforts to reform and improve its services.
“The MCD has been working hard to improve its infrastructure and services,” she said. “We’re providing them with the necessary support and resources to ensure that they can deliver better results. It’s a partnership that’s working well, and we’re seeing the benefits on the ground.”
The cooperation between the Centre, State, and MCD is not limited to environmental issues. CM Gupta highlighted the progress being made in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
“We’re working together to improve our education system, increase healthcare facilities, and upgrade our infrastructure,” she said. “It’s a holistic approach that’s focused on creating a better quality of life for the people of Delhi.”
The shift towards cooperation is also reflected in the political landscape, with the ruling BJP and the opposition AAP working together to pass key bills and initiatives. CM Gupta praised the AAP for its willingness to work with her government, saying that it’s a sign of a more mature and responsible opposition.
“The AAP has been a constructive opposition, and we’re grateful for their support,” she said. “We’re working together to pass bills that benefit the people of Delhi, and it’s a refreshing change from the past.”
The Delhi CM’s comments have sparked optimism among residents, who are hoping that this newfound cooperation will lead to tangible improvements in their daily lives. As the city’s leaders continue to work together, there’s a sense that Delhi is on the cusp of a new era of growth and development.
