CPI’s D Raja Condemns Killing of Maoist Leader and Adivasis
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly condemned the killing of senior Maoist leader Nambala Keshava Rao and over two dozen others by Indian security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad region. The party has termed the act as “cold-blooded” and extrajudicial, and has demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the operation.
According to reports, the security forces launched a massive operation in the Abujhmad region, a densely forested area known for its Maoist presence, on February 23. The operation, which was carried out under the cover of darkness, resulted in the killing of Nambala Keshava Rao, a senior Maoist leader, and at least 26 others, including civilians and Maoist fighters.
CPI General Secretary D Raja has strongly condemned the killing, terming it a “cold-blooded” and extrajudicial act. In a statement, Raja accused the Chhattisgarh government of bypassing constitutional safeguards and of using “brute force” to suppress the voices of the people.
“The killing of Nambala Keshava Rao and over two dozen others is a stark reminder of the Chhattisgarh government’s complete disregard for human rights and democratic values,” Raja said. “The government’s failure to initiate a dialogue with the Maoists and its preference for using force to suppress the movement has led to this tragic outcome.”
Raja also accused the government of using the security forces to target innocent civilians, particularly Adivasis, who are the indigenous people of the region. He said that the government’s strategy of using force to suppress the Maoist movement has only led to further alienation and radicalization of the people.
“The people of Chhattisgarh are paying the price for the government’s failure to address their grievances and to provide them with adequate protection and opportunities,” Raja said. “The killing of Nambala Keshava Rao and others is a stark reminder of the need for a political solution to the crisis in the region.”
The CPI General Secretary also demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the operation, and called for the immediate release of those who were arrested during the operation. He also demanded compensation for the families of those who were killed or injured during the operation.
The killing of Nambala Keshava Rao has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the country. The Maoist movement, which is fighting for the rights of the marginalized and oppressed, has been active in various parts of the country, including Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.
The CPI has been a strong supporter of the Maoist movement, and has called for a political solution to the crisis in the region. The party has also demanded that the government initiate a dialogue with the Maoists to address their grievances and to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
The Chhattisgarh government has defended the operation, saying that it was carried out to neutralize the Maoist threat in the region. The government has also accused the Maoists of using innocent civilians as human shields, and of carrying out violent attacks on security forces.
However, human rights groups and civil society organizations have strongly condemned the killing, terming it a “massacre” and a “grave violation of human rights”. They have called for an independent inquiry into the operation, and for the government to take immediate action to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
In conclusion, the killing of Nambala Keshava Rao and over two dozen others by Indian security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad region is a stark reminder of the need for a political solution to the crisis in the region. The CPI’s condemnation of the killing and its demand for an independent judicial inquiry is a reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in the exercise of power.
