BJP’s Sukanta Compared WB’s Law & Order to Sex Workers: TMC
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched a scathing attack on Union Minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumder for comparing the law and order situation in West Bengal to the infamous Sonagachi sex workers’ area in Kolkata. The TMC has accused Sukanta of having an “ugly, hate-fuelled mindset that sees women as objects of abuse and insult and the poor as tools to be exploited or mocked.”
The controversy began when Sukanta Majumder, a Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, made the comparison during a public rally in the state. He allegedly equated the law and order situation in West Bengal to the Sonagachi sex workers’ area, saying that just as the area is infamous for its sex trade, the state is notorious for its lawlessness.
The TMC was quick to condemn Sukanta’s remarks, calling them “shameful” and “insulting to women.” The party’s spokesperson, said, “Behind all their slogans lies an ugly, hate-fuelled mindset that sees women as objects of abuse and insult and the poor as tools to be exploited or mocked. This is not the first time that Sukanta Majumder has made such vile and derogatory comments, and it is a reflection of the BJP’s deep-seated hatred towards the people of West Bengal.”
The TMC also accused Sukanta of attempting to belittle the state’s law and order situation by comparing it to a sex workers’ area. “The people of West Bengal are well aware of the law and order situation in the state, and they know that it is far better than what exists in other parts of the country,” said the spokesperson. “Sukanta’s remarks are an attempt to demean the state and its people, and we will not tolerate such insults.”
The TMC’s attack on Sukanta came after the Union Minister made the comparison during a public rally in the state. He allegedly said, “Just as Sonagachi is famous for its sex trade, West Bengal is infamous for its lawlessness. The state is plagued by crime and violence, and the people are living in fear.”
The BJP, however, defended Sukanta’s remarks, saying that they were meant to highlight the law and order situation in West Bengal. “Sukanta’s comments were meant to bring attention to the state’s law and order situation, which is in shambles,” said a BJP spokesperson. “The TMC is trying to divert attention from the real issues and is using Sukanta’s comments to score political brownie points.”
The controversy has sparked a heated debate in the state, with many people taking to social media to express their outrage and disgust at Sukanta’s remarks. The TMC has also launched a campaign to condemn Sukanta’s comments, with party leaders and workers taking to the streets to protest against the Union Minister’s remarks.
The Sonagachi sex workers’ area has long been a symbol of the state’s sex trade, with thousands of sex workers operating in the area. The area has been the subject of controversy and debate in the past, with many calling for its closure and rehabilitation of the sex workers.
The controversy has also raised questions about the BJP’s stance on women’s issues and its attitude towards the poor and marginalized sections of society. The TMC has accused the BJP of having a hate-fuelled mindset that sees women and the poor as objects of abuse and insult.
The controversy is the latest in a series of attacks by the BJP on the TMC and the state government. The BJP has been trying to make inroads in the state, and has accused the TMC of corruption and misgovernance. The TMC, on the other hand, has accused the BJP of trying to divide the state on communal lines and of having a divisive agenda.
Regardless of the outcome of the controversy, it is clear that Sukanta’s remarks have sparked a heated debate in the state and have brought attention to the law and order situation in West Bengal. The TMC’s attack on Sukanta has also highlighted the party’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and the poor.
