BJP Govt in Assam Concerned Only for Power, Money & Land: Gogoi
The BJP-led government in Assam has been criticized for its apparent lack of concern for the welfare of the people, with the Congress party claiming that the government’s sole focus is on “power, money, land, and syndicates”. This scathing criticism comes from none other than Gaurav Gogoi, the president-designate of the Assam Congress party.
Gogoi made these remarks while addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, on the recent issue of waterlogging in the city after heavy rains. According to him, the waterlogging was largely caused by the encroachment of wetlands by BJP ministers, which has led to a clogging of the natural drainage systems.
“The BJP ministers care more about the roads leading to their own houses than about building proper drainage systems,” Gogoi said, pointing out the irony of the situation. “The government is more concerned about constructing roads to reach their own homes than about ensuring the well-being of the people of Assam.”
Gogoi’s comments come in the wake of the recent floods in Guwahati, which left thousands of people stranded and caused significant damage to property and infrastructure. The city’s waterlogging problem has been a long-standing issue, with experts attributing it to a combination of factors including poor drainage systems, rapid urbanization, and climate change.
However, Gogoi is of the opinion that the government’s lack of concern for the welfare of the people is the primary reason for the recurring problem. “The BJP government is more interested in lining their own pockets with money and power than in providing basic amenities to the people of Assam,” he said.
The Congress leader also accused the government of being complicit in the growth of syndicates, which he claimed were thriving under the patronage of the ruling party. “The government is more concerned about protecting the interests of these syndicates than about checking their illegal activities,” Gogoi alleged.
Gogoi’s remarks have been met with widespread criticism from the ruling BJP, which has accused him of making baseless and inflammatory statements. The BJP has also defended its record on governance, claiming that it has taken several initiatives to improve the lives of the people of Assam.
However, Gogoi’s comments have resonated with many ordinary citizens of Assam, who have been expressing their frustration with the government’s lack of action on issues such as infrastructure development, education, and healthcare.
As the BJP government in Assam continues to face criticism from the opposition and the people, it remains to be seen whether it will take concrete steps to address the concerns of the people or continue to prioritize its own interests.
