Biplab & Pradyot’s meeting sparks political buzz in Tripura
The political landscape of Tripura has been abuzz with speculation ever since a surprise meeting took place between BJP MP Biplab Deb and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Debbarma at Ujjayanta Palace. The closed-door discussion has raised eyebrows, especially in light of recent tensions over the Tiprasa Accord and threats by a Tipra MLA to pull support from the BJP-led government.
According to sources, the meeting was initially touted as a birthday visit, with Pradyot celebrating his birthday on March 28. However, the fact that the meeting took place at Ujjayanta Palace, the historic residence of the erstwhile Tripura royal family, has led many to speculate about the true nature of the discussion.
The Tiprasa Accord, signed in 2020, aimed to address the demands of the Tiprasa community, which has been seeking greater representation and autonomy in the state. However, the agreement has been facing teething issues, with some parties accusing the government of not fulfilling its commitments.
In recent weeks, tensions have escalated, with Tipra MLA Jitendra Choudhury threatening to pull support from the BJP-led government if his demands are not met. The sudden meeting between Biplab and Pradyot has only added to the speculation, with many wondering if a deal was struck to address the Tiprasa community’s grievances.
The BJP, however, has downplayed the meeting, stating that it was a routine birthday visit. “It was a private meeting, and nothing more,” said a party spokesperson. “The meeting was to wish Pradyot a happy birthday, and there was no political discussion.”
Pradyot Debbarma, too, has maintained that the meeting was purely personal. “It was a birthday celebration, and nothing more,” he said in a statement. “I had invited Biplab ji as a mark of respect, and we had a great time together.”
Despite the denials, political observers are skeptical about the true nature of the meeting. “This meeting is significant, considering the tensions over the Tiprasa Accord,” said Dr. Ashok Debbarma, a political analyst. “It’s possible that Biplab and Pradyot discussed ways to address the community’s grievances and find a solution to the stalemate.”
The meeting has also sparked speculation about the future of the Tipra Motha party, which has been a thorn in the side of the BJP government. Tipra Motha has been vocal about its demands for greater representation and autonomy, and some have wondered if the party is looking to join hands with the BJP to achieve its goals.
However, Pradyot Debbarma has ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the BJP. “We will not compromise on our principles and values,” he said. “We will continue to fight for the rights of the Tiprasa community, and any alliance will be based on our shared goals and values.”
As the political drama continues to unfold in Tripura, one thing is clear â the meeting between Biplab and Pradyot has only added to the tension and speculation. Whether it was a birthday visit or a backdoor discussion, one thing is certain â the Tiprasa Accord is far from being resolved, and the political landscape of Tripura is only going to get more complex in the coming days.
