Akhil Gogoi likens Assam Gir Cow Scam to Bihar Fodder Scam
In a shocking revelation, Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi has accused the Assam government of a massive “Gir Cow Scam”, comparing it to the infamous Bihar Fodder Scam. The MLA has demanded the ouster of Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Barua, claiming that over 300 Gir cows were fraudulently procured and misused. Gogoi has warned of statewide protests if no action is taken against the tainted minister.
The allegations have raised serious concerns about the misuse of public funds and the corrupt practices prevalent in the state government. The Bihar Fodder Scam, which took place in the 1990s, was one of the largest financial scandals in Indian history, involving the embezzlement of crores of rupees meant for fodder for cattle.
Gogoi, a vocal critic of the BJP-led government in Assam, has alleged that the Gir Cow Scam is a result of the government’s failure to implement a transparent and efficient procurement process for the cattle. He has claimed that the cows were purchased at exorbitant rates, much higher than the market price, and were then sold to private contractors at a significant profit.
“This is a clear case of corruption and misappropriation of public funds,” Gogoi said in a press conference. “The government has failed to provide basic facilities to the people of Assam, and instead, is engaged in fraudulent activities to line the pockets of its ministers.”
Gogoi has also accused the government of trying to cover up the scam by intimidating officials who were involved in the procurement process. He has demanded a high-level probe into the scam, led by a retired Supreme Court judge, to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
“The people of Assam have a right to know what happened to the funds meant for the procurement of Gir cows,” Gogoi said. “We will not tolerate corruption and misrule in the state, and we will continue to fight for justice and transparency.”
The Gir Cow Scam has sparked widespread outrage among the people of Assam, with many calling for the government to take immediate action to address the issue. The opposition parties have also joined the chorus, demanding the resignation of Tourism Minister Barua and a thorough investigation into the scam.
The Assam government has so far refused to comment on the allegations, but Gogoi has vowed to continue his fight for justice until the truth is revealed and those responsible are held accountable.
The Gir Cow Scam is a stark reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in government activities. It is essential that those responsible for the scam are brought to justice, and that measures are taken to prevent such scandals from happening in the future.
