Title: Sat to eat when sirens went off due to Pak shelling: J&K resident
The Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district faced a night of intense shelling on Thursday, leaving one woman dead and several others injured. The shelling, which was carried out by Pakistan, has left the residents of the area shaken and concerned for their safety.
Among those affected by the shelling is 38-year-old Babar, who recounted his terrifying experience to The Indian Express. According to Babar, he and his family had just sat down to eat when the siren rang out, signaling the start of the shelling.
“We just sat down to eat when the siren rang out. We left everything and ran to the neighbours’ bunker,” Babar said.
Babar’s house, which is located in a densely populated area, was destroyed twice in the past. First, it was destroyed during the shelling in 1999, and later, it was damaged in an earthquake.
Despite the trauma and destruction he has faced in the past, Babar is still reeling from the recent shelling. “We were all sitting together, having dinner, when the siren went off. We didn’t even have time to gather our belongings. We just ran out of the house,” he said.
The shelling, which lasted for several hours, caused widespread damage to properties and infrastructure in the area. Many residents were forced to flee their homes, seeking shelter in nearby bunkers or with friends and family.
The Indian Army has been engaged in a fierce battle with Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, following a series of ceasefire violations by Pakistan. The recent shelling in Uri is just the latest in a long list of incidents that have been reported along the LoC.
The shelling has not only caused physical damage but also psychological trauma to the residents of Uri. Many are now too scared to venture out of their homes, fearing another wave of shelling.
“We are living in fear. We don’t know what’s going to happen next. We are just trying to survive,” said a local resident.
The shelling has also disrupted the daily lives of the residents, with many schools and businesses forced to close due to the fear of further violence.
The Pakistani army’s shelling in Uri has been widely condemned by the Indian government and political parties. The government has accused Pakistan of trying to create unrest in Jammu and Kashmir and has vowed to take strong action against those responsible.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said, “Pakistan’s shelling in Uri is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and is aimed at creating unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army is fully prepared to respond to any aggression by Pakistan.”
The Indian government has also appealed to the international community to condemn Pakistan’s actions and to take steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
As the situation in Uri continues to deteriorate, the residents are left to pick up the pieces and try to rebuild their lives. For many, the memory of the recent shelling will be a difficult one to forget, and the fear of further violence will be a constant presence in their lives.
In the meantime, the Indian Army is working to restore peace and normalcy to the area, and efforts are being made to provide aid and assistance to those affected by the shelling.
As the situation in Uri continues to unfold, it is clear that the residents of the area will need the support and understanding of the international community in order to rebuild their lives and move forward.
