Russia to Send S-400 Next Year Despite Global Conflicts: Indian Govt
The ongoing global conflicts and tensions between nations have not deterred Russia from fulfilling its commitment to deliver the S-400 missile system to India next year. This assurance was given by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in an exclusive interview with News18.
The S-400 missile system is a highly advanced air defence system that has been a subject of interest for several countries. India had signed an agreement with Russia to procure the S-400 system in 2018, but the deal has been delayed due to various reasons, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In the interview, Singh acknowledged the potential delays in the delivery of the S-400 system but emphasized that India is committed to prioritizing timely contracts and enhancing its own indigenous capabilities. He stated, “While there may be potential delays, India is prioritising timely contracts and enhancing its own indigenous capabilities.”
The S-400 system is a crucial component of India’s air defence capabilities, and the delay in its delivery has raised concerns about the country’s ability to effectively defend its skies. The system is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously and has a range of over 400 kilometers.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raised concerns about the impact on the delivery of the S-400 system to India. However, it appears that Russia is committed to fulfilling its obligations to India despite the ongoing conflict.
The S-400 system is not the only military equipment that India is procuring from Russia. India has also signed agreements to procure the S-400’s predecessor, the S-300, as well as the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets. The Su-30MKI is a highly advanced multirole fighter jet that is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously.
India’s military modernization program is aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to defend its borders and airspace. The country has been increasing its military spending in recent years, and has also been focusing on indigenization of military equipment and technology.
India’s indigenous military equipment and technology include the Arjun main battle tank, the T-90 Bhishma tank, and the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher. The country is also developing its own fifth-generation fighter jet, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
In recent years, India has been strengthening its military ties with several countries, including the United States, France, and Israel. The country has also been participating in several international military exercises, including the Malabar exercise with the United States and Japan.
In conclusion, the assurance by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh that Russia will deliver the S-400 missile system to India next year despite global conflicts is a welcome development. The S-400 system is a critical component of India’s air defence capabilities, and its delivery will enhance the country’s ability to defend its skies.
