Rahul’s Poll Rigging Claim Like Cutting Branch He’s Sitting On: BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of poll rigging in the recent Maharashtra assembly polls, calling his claims “a case of someone cutting the branch he is sitting on”. The BJP’s spokesperson, Bhupender Yadav, made these remarks while responding to Gandhi’s claims that the ruling party had indulged in massive rigging and that the voter turnout had increased by one crore in the assembly polls compared to the Lok Sabha elections held earlier that year.
Gandhi had made these allegations while speaking to media personnel earlier, saying that the BJP had resorted to “massive rigging” to win the assembly polls. He had also claimed that the voter turnout had increased by one crore in the assembly polls, which he alleged was impossible.
However, Yadav dismissed Gandhi’s claims as baseless and ridiculous. He pointed out that the actual voter turnout in the assembly polls had increased by over 40 lakh compared to the Lok Sabha elections, which was a significant but not impossible increase.
“Someone is cutting the branch he is sitting on,” Yadav said, referring to Gandhi’s allegations. “The voter turnout has increased by over 40 lakh, which is a significant increase but not one crore as Rahul claimed. It’s clear that Rahul is trying to deflect attention from the Congress’s own failures and is resorting to lies and propaganda.”
The BJP spokesperson also questioned the Congress’s credibility on the issue of election rigging, pointing out that the party had been accused of rigging elections in several states in the past. He also accused the Congress of trying to undermine the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI) by making baseless allegations.
“The ECI is a respected institution and we have faith in its ability to conduct free and fair elections,” Yadav said. “The Congress’s attempts to undermine the ECI’s credibility are a reflection of their desperation and frustration.”
The BJP’s reaction to Gandhi’s allegations comes at a time when the political atmosphere in the country is already charged following the recent assembly polls. The BJP’s victories in several states, including Maharashtra, have been seen as a major setback for the Congress and its allies.
The Congress has been struggling to regain its footing in recent years, and Gandhi’s allegations of poll rigging are seen as a desperate attempt to regain some ground. However, the BJP’s response has put Gandhi on the backfoot, and it remains to be seen how the Congress will respond to the allegations.
In any case, the controversy over poll rigging is likely to continue for some time, with both parties trading allegations and counter-allegations. However, it is clear that the BJP has the upper hand in this debate, and the Congress is struggling to find its footing.
