Pics show waterlogging on streets in Gurugram after heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall brought parts of Gurugram to a standstill on Tuesday, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life. The downpour, which lasted for several hours, led to chaos on the streets, with pictures and videos surfacing online showing people wading through knee-deep water and major roads and parking lots inundated.
The rain, which started in the morning, brought with it strong winds and heavy showers, causing the water table to rise and flooding many areas of the city. The waterlogging was reported in various parts of the city, including sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, among others.
Pictures and videos shared on social media show people struggling to commute through the waterlogged streets, with some even wading through the knee-deep water to reach their destinations. The waterlogging was so severe that even four-wheelers and two-wheelers had to be pushed through the flooded areas, making it difficult for people to move around.
The traffic congestion was another issue that people faced, with many major roads and parking lots waterlogged after the downpour. Videos shared on social media show M.G. Road, Sohna Road, and other major thoroughfares of the city completely waterlogged, with traffic moving at a snail’s pace.
The heavy rainfall also caused damage to several buildings and properties, with reports of roofs collapsing and walls cracking due to the pressure of the water. The rain also caused power outages in several areas, leaving residents without electricity for several hours.
The residents of Gurugram were left stranded, with many complaining about the lack of adequate drainage system in the city. “We have been complaining about the drainage system for years, but nothing has been done,” said Ramesh Kumar, a resident of sector 3. “The waterlogging is a recurring problem, and we are tired of facing it every time it rains.”
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (GMC) has promised to take measures to prevent such flooding in the future. “We are working to clear the water from the streets and restore normalcy to the city,” said a GMC official. “We will also undertake a review of our drainage system to ensure that such incidents do not recur.”
The heavy rainfall also caused disruptions to the daily routine of the residents, with many schools and offices closed due to the waterlogging. The Rain Goddess, Meenakshi Sundaram, had earlier predicted that the city would experience heavy rainfall on Tuesday, and it seems that her prediction came true.
As the city struggles to recover from the aftermath of the heavy rainfall, residents are left wondering when the waterlogging will be cleared and normal life restored. In the meantime, the pictures and videos of the waterlogged streets are making the rounds on social media, with many residents sharing their experiences and photos of the flooding.
