Mufti Alleges Foul Play After OGW Jumps in J&K River, Drowns; BJP Slams Her
In a shocking incident, an overground worker (OGW) jumped into a river in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir and drowned, sparking allegations of foul play by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The OGW’s body was recovered from the river on Tuesday, with locals claiming that he was picked up by the Army two days ago.
Mehbooba Mufti, who is the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took to Twitter to express her concerns over the incident. She alleged that the OGW’s death was not a natural accident and that foul play was involved. “Deeply disturbed by the tragic death of an OGW in Kulgam. Locals claim he was picked up by the Army 2 days ago. Why did they have to take him away? What happened to him? Who is responsible for his death?,” she tweeted.
The incident has sparked a heated debate, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slaming Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks as baseless and irresponsible. BJP leader Sanju Verma responded to Mufti’s tweet, saying, “Mehbooba, after the Pahalgam terror attack, you said, ‘Why blame Pakistan?’ Now, when an OGW dies, you’re cooking up a story of Army’s involvement. When will you stop spreading lies and chaos?”
The Pahalgam terror attack that Verma referred to was a suicide bombing that occurred on July 10, 2017, in which a terrorist attacked a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims, killing eight people. At the time, Mehbooba Mufti had said that the attack was a “dastardly act” but had not directly blamed Pakistan.
The OGW’s death has raised questions about the involvement of security forces in the incident. The Army has not made any official statement on the matter, but sources have told the media that the OGW was involved in militant activities and was being questioned by the security forces before he jumped into the river.
The incident has also sparked concerns about the treatment of OGWs by security forces in the region. OGWs are individuals who have links to militant organizations but are not actively involved in fighting. They often serve as informers or couriers for the militants.
Mehbooba Mufti’s allegations of foul play have been met with skepticism by many, who have questioned the lack of evidence to support her claims. The incident has also raised questions about the political motives behind Mufti’s remarks.
The death of the OGW has also highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the region. Jammu and Kashmir has been facing a prolonged insurgency, with militants fighting for independence or greater autonomy from India. The security situation in the region has been deteriorating over the past few years, with an increase in terrorist attacks and violence.
As the investigation into the OGW’s death continues, the incident has sparked a heated debate about the role of security forces in the region and the treatment of OGWs. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the need for a nuanced approach to addressing the challenges facing the region.
