Mufti Alleges Foul Play after OGW Jumps in J&K River, Drowns; BJP Slams Her
In a shocking incident in Jammu and Kashmir, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) belonging to the separatist outfit, Hizbul Mujahideen, allegedly jumped into the river in Kulgam district and drowned. The incident has sparked a controversy, with former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, alleging foul play and accusing the security forces of involvement.
According to reports, the OGW, identified as Hilal Ahmed, was picked up by the Army two days ago from his home in the Kulgam district. However, he managed to escape from custody and jumped into the river, where he drowned. The incident has raised many questions, with locals alleging that the OGW was killed in custody and his body was dumped in the river to make it look like a suicide.
Reacting to the incident, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took to Twitter to express her concerns. “Unbelievable! Locals in Kulgam are saying that the OGW who drowned in the river was picked up by the Army 2 days ago. Looks like a cold-blooded murder,” she tweeted.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed Mufti’s remarks, accusing her of making baseless allegations. “Mehbooba, after the Pahalgam terror attack, said, ‘Why blame Pakistan?'” tweeted BJP leader Sanju Verma. “Now, she is saying that an OGW was killed in custody. Which truth are we to believe?”
The BJP leader’s tweet is a clear reference to Mufti’s previous statement on the Pahalgam terror attack, in which she had questioned the need to blame Pakistan for the incident. The attack had left several people dead and injured, and the security forces had launched a massive operation to track down the militants responsible.
The controversy surrounding the OGW’s death has raised questions about the security forces’ handling of separatist elements in the Valley. While the Army has denied any involvement in the OGW’s death, the locals’ allegations of foul play have sparked widespread outrage.
The incident also highlights the fragile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where separatist groups continue to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians. The Valley has been witnessing a surge in violence in recent months, with several incidents of stone-pelting, arson, and attacks on security forces reported.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an investigation into the incident, and the police have launched a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the OGW’s death. However, the controversy surrounding the incident is unlikely to die down anytime soon, with both the PDP and the BJP trading barbs over the issue.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether the truth about the OGW’s death will come to light. However, one thing is clear: the incident has once again highlighted the complex and sensitive nature of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where allegations of foul play and human rights abuses are never far from the surface.
