Heavy Rains Damage Manipal Inox Road, Cause Long Traffic Snarls
The recent spell of torrential rains in Manipal has left a trail of destruction in its wake, with the National Highway stretch in front of Inox, Manipal, bearing the brunt of the fury. The intense downpour, which lasted for several hours, caused a massive waterlogging, tearing open sections of the road and converting parts of it into dangerous craters. As rainwater had no alternate outlet, it flowed freely over the highway, bringing traffic to a grinding halt.
The damage to the road was so severe that it has left commuters and motorists stuck in long traffic snarls, with many reporting hours-long delays. The situation was further exacerbated by the fact that the heavy rainwater had to be pumped out of the road, which added to the congestion.
According to eyewitnesses, the rains started pouring down around 9 pm on the previous night and continued till around 2 am in the morning. The rainwater, which was flowing freely from the nearby hills, poured onto the highway, causing the road surface to become severely damaged.
“The rainwater was flowing at such a pace that it was like a mini-flood on the highway,” said a local resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “The road was completely submerged in water, and it was impossible to drive through. We were stuck in traffic for hours, and it was a nightmare.”
The damage to the road was not limited to just the surface; in some places, the rainwater had also seeped into the subsoil, causing the road to sink and creating massive craters. The craters, which were several feet deep, posed a major threat to commuters, and it was only a matter of time before someone got injured or worse.
The authorities were quick to respond to the situation, with the Udupi district administration deploying teams to clear the debris and repair the damaged road. Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance, were also on standby, ready to respond to any emergencies that may have arisen.
In a statement, the Udupi district administration said that they were working tirelessly to clear the debris and repair the damaged road. “We understand the inconvenience caused to the public due to the heavy rains and road damage, and we are doing everything in our power to restore the road to its normal state as soon as possible,” said the statement.
The people of Manipal have been advised to exercise caution while travelling on the highway until the road is fully repaired. Meanwhile, the authorities are working to identify the cause of the heavy rainwater inflow and to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for the authorities to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future. With heavy rainfall being a common occurrence in the region during the monsoon season, it is imperative that the authorities take proactive measures to ensure that the infrastructure is equipped to handle the rainwater.
As the road repair work continues, commuters and motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and to exercise caution while travelling on the highway. The authorities are working to restore the road to its normal state as soon as possible, and it is hoped that the situation will return to normal soon.
