Ex-Union Minister & Akali Leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Passes Away
It is with a heavy heart that we bid adieu to a stalwart of Indian politics, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, who breathed his last at the age of 89 on Wednesday at a private clinic in Mohali, Punjab. Dhindsa, a former Union Minister and senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, was undergoing treatment for age-related issues at the time of his passing.
Born on January 1, 1935, Dhindsa was a pioneer in Indian politics, serving the country in various capacities throughout his illustrious career. He was a Member of Parliament from 1998 to 2009 and held the portfolio of Minister of State for Defense Production from 2001 to 2004. His dedication and commitment to public service earned him the prestigious Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor, in 2019.
However, his decision to return the Padma Bhushan in December 2020 during the farmers’ protests sparked a significant controversy.
