Congress MLA Slams Karnataka Government, Threatens to Resign
The Karnataka government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is facing yet another crisis as one of its own MLAs, Raju Kage, has come out in open criticism against the government’s alleged corruption and inordinate delay in carrying out development works in his constituency.
Raju Kage, the MLA from Kagwad in the Belagavi district, has threatened to resign from his post, protesting against the government’s apathy towards the development needs of his constituency. This comes just a week after another Congress MLA, BR Patil, had raised similar concerns and also threatened to resign.
Kage’s outburst against the government is not a surprise, given the growing discontent among Congress MLAs over the government’s handling of development works and corruption allegations. The MLA from Kagwad has been vocal about the lack of infrastructure development in his constituency, including the non-functioning of the Kagwad Gram Panchayat office and the delay in constructing a new bus stand.
In a press conference, Kage accused the government of playing politics with the development of his constituency. “The government has been neglecting Kagwad for the past five years. Despite my efforts, the development works have been delayed, and the people are suffering,” he said.
Kage also alleged that there was a conspiracy to corrupt him and other MLAs to keep them silent on the issue of corruption in the government. “I have been offered crores of rupees to keep quiet on the corruption issue, but I have refused to accept the bribe. I am willing to resign from my post if the government does not take immediate action to address the development needs of my constituency,” he said.
Kage’s outburst has sparked a fresh wave of concern within the Congress party, with many MLAs expressing their support for the MLA from Kagwad. “We are with Kage on this issue. The government must take immediate action to address the development needs of our constituencies,” said a senior Congress MLA.
The government, however, has remained tight-lipped on the issue, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah refusing to comment on the matter. “We will take action against any MLA who is found guilty of corruption or neglecting his duties,” he said.
Kage’s threat to resign has also sparked a fresh debate on the issue of corruption within the government. Many have questioned the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption, given the numerous allegations of corruption against its MLAs.
The opposition parties, including the BJP and the JD(S), have welcomed Kage’s decision to speak out against the government’s alleged corruption. “The government has been trying to silence its MLAs who are speaking out against corruption. Kage’s decision to resign is a bold step, and we welcome it,” said a senior BJP leader.
In conclusion, Kage’s outburst against the government is a clear indication of the growing discontent within the Congress party over the government’s handling of development works and corruption allegations. The government must take immediate action to address the development needs of the constituencies and also ensure that its MLAs are not corrupted.
