2 Foreigners Among Tourists Killed by Terrorists in J&K’s Pahalgam: Reports
On Tuesday, a devastating terror attack rocked the picturesque town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, leaving 27 tourists dead and several others injured. The attack, which has sent shockwaves across the country, has been claimed by Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba’s offshoot, The Resistance Front. What makes this attack even more tragic is that it claimed the lives of two foreign nationals, an Israeli and an Italian.
According to reports, the attack took place in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the valley. The tourists were reportedly on a trekking expedition when they were ambushed by terrorists. The attack is believed to have been carried out by around four to six terrorists, who arrived at the scene in a vehicle and opened fire on the tourists.
The deceased include two foreign nationals – an Israeli national and an Italian national – along with 25 Indian tourists. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, and the death toll is expected to rise further as more bodies are recovered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the attack, saying that it is a “cowardly act” that will not deter the government from its commitment to protecting the lives of its citizens. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has also condemned the attack, saying that it is a “dastardly act” that will not be tolerated.
The attack has sparked widespread outrage across the country, with many calling for stronger measures to be taken against terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates. The central government has assured that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of tourists in the valley.
The attack is a grim reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the ongoing efforts of the security forces to contain the situation, terrorist groups continue to carry out attacks on innocent civilians, including tourists.
In recent years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed several attacks on tourists, including a devastating attack on a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims in 2017 that left seven people dead. The attack on Tuesday is one of the deadliest attacks on tourists in the valley in recent years.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates have been responsible for several high-profile attacks in the past, including the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed over 40 CRPF personnel. The group has been designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States and the United Nations.
The attack on Tuesday has also raised concerns about the security measures in place for tourists in the valley. While the government has assured that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of tourists, many have questioned whether enough is being done to prevent such attacks.
In the aftermath of the attack, security forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order and ensure that the situation does not escalate further. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also launched an investigation into the attack, and several suspects have been arrested.
As the country mourns the loss of lives and condemns the attack, it is clear that the fight against terrorism is far from over. The government and security forces must continue to work together to ensure that such attacks do not happen again, and that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can live in peace and safety.
