Producer accuses Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma of kidnapping him in Goa; extorting ₹23 lakh
In a shocking turn of events, film producer Shyam Sunder Dey has accused television actors Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma of kidnapping and confining him in Goa and extorting ₹23 lakh from him. Dey’s wife Malabika has filed a police complaint and the two actors have now been booked.
Dey, the founder of the production company, Shyam Sunder Films, had been in Goa for a business meeting when he was allegedly kidnapped by Puja and Kunal. According to the police complaint filed by Malabika, the actors had planned the kidnapping and confinement to extort money from Dey.
The incident allegedly took place on February 12, when Dey was kidnapped from his hotel room in Goa. He was taken to an unknown location, where he was kept confined and subjected to physical and mental torture. The actors allegedly demanded ₹23 lakh from Dey, threatening to harm him and his family if the money was not paid.
A few days ago, Kunal and Puja had taken to social media to claim that they had lost all their savings to financial fraud. However, it seems that their claims were just a ruse to get sympathy and avoid suspicion.
The police have now booked Puja and Kunal under sections 363 (kidnapping), 365 (kidnapping for ransom), and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). An investigation is underway to find out the exact circumstances of the incident and the extent of the involvement of the two actors.
This is not the first time that Puja and Kunal have been in the news for controversial reasons. In the past, they have been involved in several controversies, including allegations of domestic violence and financial disputes.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with many calling for the actors to be held accountable for their actions. “Kidnapping and extortion are serious crimes that cannot be taken lightly,” said a police officer involved in the investigation. “We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Dey’s wife Malabika has been vocal about her husband’s ordeal, saying that she was devastated when she received the news of his kidnapping. “I was in a state of panic when I heard that my husband had been kidnapped,” she said. “I couldn’t sleep for days, worrying about his safety and well-being. I am grateful that the police have taken swift action to book the accused and I hope that they will bring them to justice soon.”
As the investigation continues, many are left wondering how two well-known television actors could stoop to such levels. Has the pressure of fame and financial struggles driven them to commit such heinous crimes? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the entertainment industry needs to take a long, hard look at itself and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
