Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo
The much-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’ has finally arrived, with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR reuniting on the big screen under the direction of Ayan Mukerji. However, according to News18’s review, ‘War 2’ falls short of expectations, with the film being “all style and no ammo”.
In a scathing review, News18’s Titas Chowdhury gave ‘War 2’ 2.5 stars, stating that the film is “ambitious too and ambition is good, but it’s execution where the film falters.” Chowdhury went on to add that the story is “thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?’ kind of feeling.”
The review highlights that despite the impressive performances from the lead actors, the film’s execution falls flat. Chowdhury notes that the action sequences, which were a highlight of the first film, are not as effective this time around. “The action is loud, the stunts are elaborate, but the impact is diluted by the lack of tension,” the reviewer writes.
One of the main issues with ‘War 2’ is its convoluted plot, which tries to pack in too much into its 2.5-hour runtime. Chowdhury notes that the film’s narrative is “meandering, with too many twists and turns that fail to engage.” The reviewer also criticizes the film’s dialogue, saying that it is “clunky and cringe-worthy at times.”
Despite its flaws, ‘War 2’ does have its moments. Chowdhury praises the chemistry between Hrithik and Jr NTR, saying that their performances are “fiery and intense.” The reviewer also notes that the film’s visuals are impressive, with stunning action sequences and breathtaking stunts.
However, these positives are not enough to save the film from its overall mediocrity. Chowdhury concludes that ‘War 2’ is a disappointment, saying that it fails to live up to the standard set by its predecessor. “The film’s ambition is admirable, but its execution is lacking,” the reviewer writes. “It’s a shame, because with a tighter script and more focused direction, ‘War 2’ could have been a thrilling ride.”
In an era where sequels and remakes seem to be the norm, it’s disappointing to see a film like ‘War 2’ fall so short of expectations. With its impressive cast and crew, one would expect a film that would at least match the standard set by the first installment. Unfortunately, ‘War 2’ is a film that is all style and no ammo, with too much flash and not enough substance.
