Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 action-packed thriller ‘War’, ‘War 2’ has finally hit the screens, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in lead roles. The film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, promised to bring back the high-octane action and thrilling stunts that made the original a massive hit. However, News18’s Titas Chowdhury gave the film a lukewarm review, awarding it 2.5 stars and calling it “all style and no ammo”.
Chowdhury’s review begins by praising the film’s ambition, stating that it’s “ambitious too and ambition is good, but it’s execution where the film falters”. Unfortunately, the reviewer believes that the story is where the film falls short, describing it as “thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?’ kind of way”.
The reviewer goes on to praise the performances of the lead actors, stating that Hrithik and Jr NTR “bring fire to their roles”, but unfortunately, even their impressive stunts can’t save the film from its overall lack of substance. Chowdhury notes that the film’s plot is overly complicated, with too many twists and turns that fail to engage the audience.
Despite the film’s many flaws, Chowdhury does acknowledge that ‘War 2’ is visually stunning, with impressive action sequences and slick choreography. However, even these exciting moments can’t compensate for the film’s lack of depth and character development.
In conclusion, Chowdhury’s review suggests that ‘War 2’ is a style-over-substance film that fails to deliver on its promise of an action-packed thriller. While the lead actors bring their A-game to the roles, the story and plot are too weak to carry the film. With its thin storyline and lack of substance, ‘War 2’ is a disappointing sequel that fails to live up to the hype.
