Google to buy cloud security firm Wiz for ₹2.77 lakh crore in its biggest deal
In a significant move, Google parent Alphabet has signed a definitive agreement to acquire New York-based cloud security platform Wiz for $32 billion (approximately ₹2.77 lakh crore), subject to adjustments, in an all-cash transaction. This deal will be the biggest acquisition made by the company, marking a major milestone in its pursuit of expanding its cloud computing business.
The acquisition, which is expected to close in the second half of 2025, will enable Google Cloud to further enhance its cloud security capabilities and provide customers with more flexibility to use multiple cloud services. According to a statement released by Google, the deal will “turbocharge improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds.” This sentiment was echoed by CEO Sundar Pichai, who expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating that it will “bring together the best of Google Cloud and Wiz to help customers build a more secure and resilient cloud infrastructure.”
Wiz, a cloud security platform that provides real-time threat detection and remediation, has gained significant traction in the industry for its innovative approach to cloud security. Founded in 2020, the company has quickly established itself as a leader in the cloud security space, with a growing customer base that includes some of the world’s largest enterprises.
The acquisition is a significant coup for Google, which has been steadily expanding its cloud computing business in recent years. The company has made significant investments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cybersecurity, and has been aggressively pursuing deals to strengthen its position in the cloud market.
Wiz’s technology will be integrated into Google Cloud’s existing security offerings, providing customers with enhanced protection against a wide range of threats, including cloud-native attacks, misconfigured cloud infrastructure, and insider threats. The deal is expected to create new opportunities for Google Cloud customers, who will be able to leverage Wiz’s advanced threat detection and remediation capabilities to improve their overall cloud security posture.
The acquisition is also expected to create new opportunities for Wiz’s employees, who will join Google Cloud’s growing team of cloud security experts. Wiz’s founders, Assaf Hefetz and Eldad Chai, will join Google Cloud’s leadership team, bringing their expertise and experience to the company.
The deal is the latest in a series of significant acquisitions made by Google in recent years. In 2020, the company acquired Looker, a cloud-based business intelligence and analytics platform, for $2.6 billion. In 2021, Google acquired Nevercode, a Finnish cloud-based mobile app development platform, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition of Wiz is a testament to Google’s commitment to innovation and its willingness to invest in new technologies and talent. As the company continues to grow and expand its cloud computing business, it is likely that we will see more significant acquisitions in the future.
