Ex-Jet Airways CEO calls Haryana’s plan to build Disneyland ‘silly’, posts pics of garbage on road
In a scathing attack on the Haryana government’s plan to build India’s first Disneyland theme park in Manesar, Sanjiv Kapoor, former CEO of Jet Airways, has called the project “ludicrous”. Kapoor, a vocal critic of the government’s handling of public affairs, took to social media to express his outrage at the state’s priorities.
Sharing pictures of a garbage-filled road in Gurgaon, Kapoor targeted the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Gurugram Municipal Corporation, and government officials in general. “Shame on you Haryana CM, Gurugram Municipal Corporation…No respect for land, for tax-paying citizens and not even for crows,” he wrote.
“Why do ‘babus’ (government officers) drive around blindfolded or what?” he added, questioning the authorities’ apparent lack of concern for the state of the city’s infrastructure.
Kapoor’s outburst is a stark reminder of the stark contrast between the government’s ambitious plans to develop the city and the harsh reality on the ground. As the state government prepares to unveil its latest project – a theme park that promises to attract millions of tourists – the city’s residents are struggling to cope with the mess that surrounds them.
Garbage and pollution have become a norm in Gurgaon, with residents forced to navigate through narrow streets lined with trash and debris. The city’s waterways are clogged with waste, and the once-pristine air has given way to a thick haze of pollution.
The government’s response to these issues has been woefully inadequate, with promises of action often failing to materialize. Residents are left to fend for themselves, struggling to maintain some semblance of order in a city that seems to be rapidly descending into chaos.
Kapoor’s criticism is not the first of its kind. Local residents have been complaining about the state of the city for years, with many calling for the government to take immediate action to address the issues.
However, the government’s response has been slow and ineffective, with few concrete steps taken to improve the situation. It remains to be seen whether the proposed Disneyland theme park will help to alleviate the city’s problems or merely serve as a symbol of the government’s misplaced priorities.
As Kapoor’s post highlights, the city’s residents are not just concerned about the state of their city; they are also worried about the government’s commitment to its people. “Do ‘babus’ drive around blindfolded or what?” Kapoor asked, echoing the sentiments of many residents who feel that the government is out of touch with reality.
The Haryana government’s plan to build India’s first Disneyland theme park is seen by many as a cynical attempt to boost tourism and attract foreign investment. However, the project has been met with skepticism by many residents, who are concerned about the impact it will have on the city’s infrastructure and the environment.
Kapoor’s criticism is a timely reminder of the need for the government to prioritize the needs of its people over its own ambitions. As the city struggles to cope with the mess that surrounds it, the government must take concrete steps to address the issues that matter most to its residents – garbage, pollution, and a lack of respect for the land and its people.
In the words of Kapoor, “Shame on you Haryana CM, Gurugram Municipal Corporation…No respect for land, for tax-paying citizens and not even for crows.” It remains to be seen whether the government will take heed of these words and prioritize the needs of its people.
