Savanoor Storm Leaves Trail of Destruction in Kadaba Taluk
Early Tuesday morning, around 5 am, a powerful storm swept through Savanoor and nearby regions of Kadaba taluk, causing extensive damage and estimated losses running into several lakhs of rupees. The storm, which brought with it strong winds and heavy rain, left a trail of destruction in its wake, affecting several areas within the MESCOM sub-division limits of Savanoor.
Among the worst affected areas were Kedenji, Areltadi, Kudmanamajalu Patte Madake, and Anyadi in Kudmaru village. The storm caused widespread damage to properties, including houses, shops, and agricultural lands, leaving many residents without a roof over their heads or a means of livelihood.
Eyewitnesses described the storm as “unprecedented” and “fierce”, with winds blowing at speeds of over 100 km per hour. The heavy rain caused flash floods in several areas, making it difficult for people to venture out and assess the damage. The storm also brought down power lines and communication networks, leaving many areas without electricity or phone connectivity.
The storm caused significant damage to agricultural lands, with crops destroyed and fields flooded. The loss of crops is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy, with many farmers relying on the agricultural sector for their livelihood.
Residents of the affected areas are struggling to come to terms with the extent of the damage. “We have never seen a storm like this before. The winds were so strong that they could have blown away a house,” said Ramesh, a resident of Kedenji. “We are still trying to assess the damage, but it’s clear that many people have lost their homes and livelihoods.”
The storm has also caused significant damage to infrastructure, with roads and bridges damaged or destroyed. The heavy rain has also caused landslides in some areas, blocking roads and making it difficult for rescue teams to reach affected areas.
The Kadaba taluk administration has swung into action to provide relief to the affected areas. A team of officials, led by the Deputy Tahsildar, has been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the damage and provide assistance to those in need.
The administration has also set up relief camps in several areas, where affected residents are being provided with food, shelter, and other essential items. The camp at Kedenji, for example, is providing shelter to over 100 families who have been displaced by the storm.
In addition to the relief efforts, the administration is also working to clear the debris and restore infrastructure in the affected areas. A team of workers has been deployed to clear the roads and restore power and communication networks.
The storm has also caused significant disruption to the daily lives of residents, with many schools and businesses closed due to the damage. The storm has also caused inconvenience to passengers, with several buses and trains cancelled due to the bad weather.
As the storm-ravaged regions of Savanoor and Kadaba taluk begin the process of recovery, the residents are left to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives. The storm has left a lasting impact on the community, but the resilience and determination of the people will ensure that they bounce back stronger than ever.
