Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo: News18
The much-anticipated spy thriller, ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has finally hit the screens. The film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, promised a high-octane action-packed ride, but unfortunately, it falls short of delivering on its promises. News18’s Titas Chowdhury gave the film 2.5 stars and called it “all style and no ammo”.
According to Titas, the film’s ambition is admirable, but it’s the execution that falters. The reviewer notes that the story is thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a “was there a draft two?” kind of way. The film tries to pack in too much, resulting in a disjointed narrative that fails to engage the viewer.
The action sequences, which are usually a highlight of Ayan Mukerji’s films, are few and far between in ‘War 2’. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR bring their A-game, but even their impressive stunts and fight choreography can’t save the film from its overall lack of substance.
One of the major issues with ‘War 2’ is its poor storytelling. The plot is convoluted and tries to tackle too many themes, resulting in a messy and confusing narrative. The film’s attempt to explore complex themes like loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice falls flat due to the weak script.
The characters in the film are also poorly developed. Hrithik Roshan’s character, in particular, is a mystery even by the end of the film. His motivations and backstory are left unexplained, making it difficult for the audience to connect with him.
Jr NTR, on the other hand, shines as the antagonist. He brings a sense of menace and danger to his role, making him a compelling watch. However, even his strong performance can’t elevate the film’s poor script and direction.
The film’s visuals and music are notable highs, with the cinematography and production design creating a sleek and modern look. The soundtrack, composed by Pritam, is also impressive, with the song “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar” being a particular standout.
In conclusion, ‘War 2’ is a disappointing film that fails to live up to its promise. Despite its impressive action sequences and strong performances, the film’s poor storytelling, weak characters, and disjointed narrative make it a chore to watch. If you’re a fan of spy thrillers, you may find some enjoyment in the film’s stylish visuals and music, but overall, ‘War 2’ is a disappointing effort from Ayan Mukerji.
