Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo: News18
The long-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’ has finally arrived, and the expectations were sky-high. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, ‘War 2’ promises to be an action-packed spy thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. But, does it deliver? According to News18’s Titas Chowdhury, the answer is a resounding no.
In his review, Chowdhury gave ‘War 2’ 2.5 stars out of five, stating that the film is “all style and no ammo”. While the reviewer acknowledges that the film is ambitious, he believes that it’s the execution that lets it down.
“At its core, ‘War 2’ is about two men, Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) and Aditya (Jr NTR), who are on opposite sides of the law. Kabir is a rogue agent, while Aditya is a ruthless assassin. The story is thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?'” Chowdhury writes.
Chowdhury goes on to say that the film’s biggest problem is its lack of substance. Despite having a talented cast and impressive action sequences, the story is predictable and lacks depth. The villain, in particular, is underdeveloped and fails to make an impact.
“The action scenes are a treat, no doubt about it. Hrithik and Jr NTR bring fire to the screen, and the stunts are cleverly choreographed. But, even the best action scenes can’t compensate for a lack of storytelling,” Chowdhury notes.
The reviewer also criticizes the film’s pacing, stating that it’s uneven and fails to build momentum. The first half of the film is slow-burning, and it takes a while for the action to kick in. By the time the second half arrives, the film feels like it’s running out of steam.
“Despite its impressive visuals and sleek production design, ‘War 2’ feels like a film that’s been made for the sake of making a film. It’s a collection of stylish set pieces and action sequences strung together with a thin narrative thread,” Chowdhury concludes.
Overall, Chowdhury’s review suggests that ‘War 2’ is a disappointing follow-up to the original ‘War’. While it has its moments, the film’s lack of substance and poor execution hold it back from being a truly great film.
