Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo
The much-awaited spy thriller ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has finally hit the screens. The film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, promises to be an action-packed ride, but does it deliver? According to News18’s review, the answer is a resounding no. Our reviewer, Titas Chowdhury, gave the film 2.5 stars, stating that it’s “all style and no ammo”.
The review begins by acknowledging the film’s ambition. “It’s ambitious too and ambition is good,” Chowdhury writes. “But it’s execution where the film falters.” The story, it seems, is the problem. “The story is thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?'” Chowdhury laments.
Despite the promise of an exciting storyline, the film fails to deliver. Chowdhury notes that the plot is convoluted and lacks depth. The characters, too, are underdeveloped, with the audience struggling to connect with them. The dialogue, too, is clichéd and lacks punch. “It’s a pity that the script didn’t get a thorough workout,” Chowdhury writes.
But it’s not all bad news. Chowdhury does give credit to the film’s technical aspects, noting that the action sequences are well-choreographed and visually stunning. The cinematography is also impressive, capturing the grandeur of the film’s international locations. The score, too, is catchy and adds to the film’s tension and excitement.
The two leads, Hrithik and Jr NTR, also bring their A-game to the table. Chowdhury praises their chemistry, noting that they have a palpable energy when sharing the screen. Their individual performances are also impressive, with Hrithik delivering a particularly strong showing.
Despite these positives, however, the film ultimately falls short. Chowdhury concludes that “War 2” is a disappointment, lacking the punch and excitement that fans of the original were hoping for. “It’s a pity that the film didn’t live up to its potential,” she writes.
