Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo
The much-awaited action-thriller ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has finally hit the screens. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, promises to deliver high-octane action sequences and a gripping storyline. However, according to News18’s Titas Chowdhury, the film falls short of expectations.
In her review, Chowdhury gave the film 2.5 stars, stating that “Hrithik and Jr NTR bring fire, but Ayan Mukerji’s spy thriller runs out of bullets.” She adds that the film’s ambition is admirable, but its execution is where it falters.
The reviewer highlights that the story of ‘War 2’ is thin and lacks depth. She writes, “The story is thin, not lean in a sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?'” This lack of substance is evident throughout the film, making it feel like a series of disconnected action sequences rather than a cohesive narrative.
Despite the thin storyline, Chowdhury praises the film’s visuals and action sequences. She states that Hrithik and Jr NTR bring their A-game to the film, delivering impressive stunts and intense fight scenes. The chemistry between the two leads is also commendable, making their on-screen interactions engaging and enjoyable.
However, the reviewer feels that the film’s pacing is uneven, with long stretches of dull moments sandwiched between the action-packed sequences. She notes that the film’s climax, in particular, feels rushed and lacking in tension, failing to deliver the expected payoff.
Chowdhury also criticizes the film’s dialogue, which she feels is cheesy and forced. She writes, “The one-liners are cringe-worthy, and the characters’ conversations sound like they were written by a teenager who just discovered the concept of sarcasm.”
Despite these criticisms, Chowdhury concludes that ‘War 2’ is still an entertaining film, thanks to its stunning visuals and impressive action sequences. She writes, “It’s ambitious too, and ambition is good. But it’s execution where the film falters.” Overall, the reviewer feels that ‘War 2’ is a style-over-substance film that fails to deliver on its promise of a thrilling spy thriller.
