Hrithik & Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ is all style, no ammo
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’ has finally arrived, and it’s safe to say that the expectations were high. The film, titled ‘War 2’, brings together two of the biggest stars in Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, in a high-octane action-packed ride. However, despite their best efforts, the film falls short of delivering a truly satisfying experience.
In his review for News18, Titas Chowdhury gave ‘War 2’ a rating of 2.5 stars, saying that the film is “all style and no ammo”. He notes that the film’s ambition is admirable, but its execution is where it falters. The story, he says, is thin and lacks depth, with a narrative that feels like it’s lacking a solid draft.
“It’s ambitious too and ambition is good but it’s execution where the film falters,” Chowdhury writes. “The story is thin, not lean in sleek way, but hollow in a ‘was there a draft two?’ kind of way.”
Chowdhury does praise the performances of the two leads, noting that they bring energy and charisma to their respective roles. However, he feels that their efforts are ultimately overshadowed by the film’s lackluster plot and poor pacing.
“The lead actors, Hrithik and Jr NTR, bring fire to their roles, but even their combined might can’t salvage the film’s lack of substance,” he writes. “The action scenes are well-choreographed, but the story is so thin that it feels like a chore to sit through.”
Despite these criticisms, Chowdhury does acknowledge that ‘War 2’ has its moments. The film’s visual effects are impressive, and the cinematography is stunning. Additionally, the film’s score is catchy and helps to elevate the film’s energy.
“Visually, the film is stunning, with some breathtaking action sequences and a sleek production design,” Chowdhury writes. “The score is catchy and energetic, and the editing is slick, but it’s not enough to make up for the film’s lack of substance.”
Overall, Chowdhury’s review suggests that ‘War 2’ is a disappointing follow-up to the original ‘War’. While the film has its moments, its lack of a strong narrative and poor pacing hold it back from being a truly memorable experience.
