₹1,000 cr quantum tech hub plan unveiled in Karnataka
In a groundbreaking move, Karnataka has launched a ₹1,000 crore plan to become Asia’s “Quantum Capital” by 2035. This ambitious project, anchored around a futuristic Q-City near Bengaluru, aims to establish the state as a global hub for quantum technology, research, and innovation. The mission includes the development of a Quantum Hardware Park, support for over 100 startups, and 150 PhD fellowships. With global partnerships, research facilities, and chip-making capabilities, Karnataka is poised to create 2 lakh jobs and lead India’s tech future.
The Quantum City, a 100-acre hub, will be built near Bengaluru, serving as the nerve center for the state’s quantum technology ecosystem. The city is expected to house leading research institutions, startups, and industry players, fostering collaboration and innovation in the quantum space. The city will also feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including laboratories, workshops, and testing facilities.
At the heart of the Q-City will be the Quantum Hardware Park, a 50-acre facility that will focus on the development of quantum computing hardware. The park will provide a conducive environment for startups and researchers to work on cutting-edge projects, leveraging Karnataka’s existing strengths in the IT and electronics sectors. The park will also host industry players, such as chip manufacturers, to develop and test quantum-enabled chips.
The startup support program will provide funding, mentorship, and resources to over 100 startups, enabling them to develop and scale their quantum technology-based products and services. The program will also offer incubation facilities, co-working spaces, and access to industry experts and mentors.
The 150 PhD fellowships will be awarded to students and researchers to pursue advanced research in quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum information processing. The fellowships will be awarded through a competitive process, and the chosen candidates will be provided with funding, mentorship, and research opportunities.
Karnataka’s quantum tech hub plan is designed to create a robust ecosystem that will drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation in the state. The project is expected to attract global partnerships, research institutions, and industry players, making Karnataka a hub for quantum technology development in Asia.
The state government has partnered with leading research institutions, universities, and industry players to drive the development of the quantum tech hub. The partners include the Indian Institute of Science, the National Institute of Advanced Studies, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bangalore, among others.
The quantum tech hub plan is also expected to create a significant number of jobs, both directly and indirectly, in the state. The project is expected to create 2 lakh jobs, including positions in research, development, manufacturing, and services. The jobs will be created across various sectors, including IT, electronics, and manufacturing.
The Karnataka government has also announced plans to establish a Quantum Technology Development Fund, which will provide funding support to startups and research institutions working on quantum technology-based projects. The fund will also provide support for the development of quantum-enabled products and services.
The unveiling of the ₹1,000 crore quantum tech hub plan is a significant milestone for Karnataka, marking the state’s commitment to becoming a leader in the quantum technology space. The project is expected to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation in the state, making Karnataka a hub for quantum technology development in Asia.
