Maruti, Hyundai & Tata sales fall, Mahindra & Toyota gain in June
The Indian automotive industry has witnessed a mixed bag of results in June, with Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, and Tata Motors reporting a decline in sales, while Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota Kirloskar Motor saw an increase in sales.
According to the latest sales data, Maruti Suzuki, the largest automaker in the country, saw a year-on-year (YoY) decline in sales across all segments except mid-size sedans. The company’s domestic passenger vehicle sales fell by 13% YoY in June, with a total of 1,16,800 units sold.
Hyundai Motor India, another major player in the Indian market, recorded a 12% YoY decline in domestic dispatches. The company’s sales fell to 43,000 units in June, down from 49,000 units in the same month last year.
Tata Motors, which has been struggling in recent times, posted a 15% YoY drop in passenger vehicle sales. The company sold 23,700 units in June, down from 27,700 units in the same month last year.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the leading utility vehicle manufacturers in the country, saw a significant increase in sales. The company’s utility vehicle sales rose by 18% YoY in June, with a total of 25,500 units sold.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor, known for its popular models like Innova and Fortuner, reported a 5% YoY sales increase in June. The company sold 12,100 units in the month, up from 11,500 units in the same month last year.
The decline in sales for Maruti, Hyundai, and Tata can be attributed to various factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, rising fuel prices, and increased competition in the market. The sales decline has also been affected by the ongoing semiconductor shortage, which has led to production disruptions and reduced supply of vehicles.
On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra’s increase in sales can be attributed to its strong presence in the utility vehicle segment, which has seen significant demand in recent times. The company’s XUV300, Thar, and Bolero have been popular among customers, contributing to the growth in sales.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s sales increase can be attributed to its strong brand presence and the demand for its popular models like Innova and Fortuner. The company’s focus on product quality, customer service, and after-sales support has also contributed to its growth in sales.
The Indian automotive industry has been facing challenges in recent times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, rising fuel prices, and increased competition. Despite these challenges, the industry has shown resilience and is expected to continue growing in the coming years.
In conclusion, the sales results for June indicate that the Indian automotive industry is still recovering from the pandemic, with Maruti, Hyundai, and Tata facing challenges in sales. However, Mahindra & Mahindra and Toyota Kirloskar Motor have shown resilience and are expected to continue growing in the coming years.
